Thomas (tom471) | 2006 comments I read Robert B. Parker's Someone to Watch Over Me by Ace Atkins I rated it 4 stars. It is almost as if the plot was ripped from the headlines, with a Jeffrey Epstein type abusing underage girls with the help of a woman recruiter. I am using my library to read some books in series that I enjoy reading. My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Alan Cumming is a Scottish actor who's dabbled in every show business genre during his long and successful career. It wasn't all smooth sailing though. This is Cumming's memoir about his life and career.

Very good book. 4 stars

I'm reading The Rent Collectors: Exploitation, Murder, and Redemption in Immigrant LA by Jesse Katz, a true story that starts out with an 18 year-old kid who was taken to Mexico to be killed, but survived. As the story of how he came to be there unfolds, the author also looks at the immigrant communities of the Los Angeles area around MacArthur Park who had to yield to gang authority in order to continue to make a living. So good -- no crap stereotypes here.

Finished rereading The Other by Thomas Tryon. I first read it about 50 years ago. It holds up well so one can understand how it was instrumental in the horror boom of the 1970s and '80s.

Araych | 678 comments The Pearl Harbor Murders The Pearl Harbor Murders by Max Allan Collins by Max Allan Collins

Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan, and his son were (really) in Hawaii in early December 1941. This book is a fictional account of Burroughs helping to solve 2 murders just as Pearl Harbor is attacked. I've read most of Collins' Nathan Heller series and I'm now reading his disaster series. I like most of Collins stuff but this is one of his weakest. It was OK, 2 stars.
