This charming novel revolves around Irish folklore, superstitions, and fairies. An American woman goes to Ireland on a whim and finds the diary of a 18-year-old girl written a century ago.

Araych | 677 comments A Little White Death A Little White Death (Inspector Troy, #3) by John Lawton by John Lawton

Inspector Troy #3/#8. This is the 3rd book Lawton published in the Troy series but is the last in the Troy story. It's 1963 in London and it's the start of the Swingin' 60's. Troy helps an old friend defect to Russia and when he returns to England soon becomes entangled in 2 suicides which might be murder, along with the political and social upheaval of the time. Spies and lies abound as Troy works to sort out the truth and punish the wicked as he tries to not get beat up or shot again. Sorry to say this is the end of the Troy series although Lawton is still alive so there's hope. This is authorship at a high level -- 4 stars.

TJ Devlin comes from a family of lawyers, but he's a screwup who abused alcohol and went to prison. Now TJ is a recovering alcoholic, with a second chance as an investigator for his family's law firm. In this story, TJ looks into two cases.

Good suspense novel. 3.5 stars

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments I finished Mercy Falls Mercy Falls (Cork O'Connor, #5) by William Kent Krueger by William Kent Krueger

This is the 5th book in the Cork O'Connor series, published in 2005. I'm not going to review these early books but I'll give a capsule summary.

After a scandal surrounding the previous Sheriff's Department, Cork is sheriff of Aurora, Minnestota again. Somebody might be unhappy about this, because a sniper tries to kill Cork.

Meanwhile, there's a homicide in Aurora: a Chicago promoter who's trying to make a business deal with the Ojibwe Indian Casino is stabbed to death.

These two inquiries come together as the story unfolds.

Plenty of action and adventure in the book, as usual with this series. 4 stars
