I loved the Convenience Store Woman who refused to be pigeon-holed ... except by herself. Who cares what everyone else thinks? Sayaka Murata has created a memorable character indeed.

Completely agree with your review. I've read a few of these out of order, and enjoyed every one of them. The writing, the setting, the family dynamics, the interactions between Brunetti and his superiors, the interactions between Brunetti and his team and those outside the team who contribute, all of it is excellent, well-observed and well-presented. Leon is just an excellent writer.

The Boy Who Never Grew Up by David Handler

Stewart Hoag #5. Nobody gets murdered until almost halfway through the book, but it's still a cute light mystery set in Hollywood in the early 1990's. I like the series and I liked this one -- 3 stars.

I've just finished Only If You're Lucky by Stacy Willingham. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing - not nearly as good as her first two books.

Rat Pack Mysteries #6. It's 1962. Bing Crosby comes to Las Vegas to buy a race horse and asks Eddie's help. They find trouble and dead bodies. Another light mystery in the series -- I liked it -- 3 stars.

Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter is an atmospheric mystery with two great main characters. My five star review:

Alias Emma is a 269-page chase scene that could've been a slog in less-skilled hands. But the author knows her stuff, and she's given us two personable protagonists, a lot of London atmosphere, and enough well-orchestrated action to keep you pleasantly occupied for a few hours. Four Pret a Manger sandwiches.
