The mystery begins when Bess hears from a dying man that the alleged murderer is not only alive, but serving in France, and she is determined to find out the truth. This story was more interesting than the previous book, and I found it hard to put this book down, reading it in an afternoon. It was a realistic portrayal of nursing during WW1, and I enjoyed learning more about the regiment when it was serving in India. The mystery was intriguing, and I really liked seeing Bess and Simon work together to try to solve the mystery and protect her father at the same time. Bess and Simon spend quite a lot of their time together in England in this book, but I liked seeing her interact with Sargeant Larimore again when she was in France. I will be continuing with this series as soon as possible, as I’m now completely hooked on it.
