Since it was one of the squares you put on our Bingo Board for Jan/Feb 2024, I actually put some thought into what book I wanted to use to kick off the year. There's quite a few e-books on my Kindle, patiently waiting their turn. From among them, I chose Da Vinci's Cat by Catherine Gilbert Murdock, in large part because I so enjoyed The Book of Boy. It turned out to be a great middle grade read, the perfect start for a new year's reading!

I can see the appeal, that's a beautiful cover!

Funnily enough, my first book of the year also had a tie-in to the arts! I went with Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald, in which the main character, Theo, becomes embroiled in an historical mystery when her grandfather suddenly dies, leaving her with their ramshackle family home, a flock of hens, and a stolen painting.

D.T. | 11 comments My first MG read for January was an inspiring graphic novel, Ink Girls. It was about standing up for truth and justice and freedom of the press.
