Your review took the words right out of my mouth. I am never giving Cormac McCarthy another chance ever again.

Jane | 221 comments The Goldfinch! I read this over the summer for book club so I could discuss it when we met again in the fall. It was the longest summer of my long life.

amaldae (staticatku) City of Bones and City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. I don't even know why I decided to read them but it definitely was a mistake. :P

This next one is not a one-star book per se, but it might have been the biggest disappointment of the year for me - The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons. Picked it up because it got really high praise at some point of the year but all it did to me was prove genre romance and I are not compatible.

Ciara Hickey (ciaraemmah) re: The Goldfinch. Yes it was so over written and boring! most disappointing book for me in a long time.

Som | 126 comments All those dodgy piece of turds degenerate young adult books; those are degrading, dumbing down the teens' vocabulary, literary creativity etc; but it's always like listening to a catchy lil wayne and katy perry duet. Hope this 'junk food' YA genre dies in the next generation or the consequences will be like what happened in a movie named 'Idiocracy'.

Paula (paula05) | 29 comments I was recommended to read the Goldfinch by a friend. A friend whom I usually agree with on reads so it'll be interesting if I read this and didn't care for it.

Kandice I really didn't like The Maze Runner either and was thrilled to see someone else felt the same as me.(Ben)

I'm on board with this! The worst book I read in 2014 was "Clockwork Angel" by Cassandra Clare. I was highly recommended to the prequel series to the "Moral Instruments" by someone whom I usually trust about book recommendations. I made it through, but just BARELY! I have no desire to finish the rest of the series.

I found Clare's plot to be tired, worn, and predictable. I didn't find any of the characters likable or relate-able. Also from the light reading I've done after reading the book, the series is filled with historical inaccuracies to rope in people who are fans of Steam Punk.

Just yuck all around.

Renee (pontiacgal501) | 70 comments The book that I really didn't like last year was The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. I was really looking forward to reading it because The Harry Potter books were so good. I was very disappointed. But the Cormoran series by Robert Galbraith (pseudonym for J. K. Rowling) was good.

Chris | 58 comments The Goldfinch was a VERY slow audiobook. I liked it but I found that it was the narrator who provided the interest. I haven't ever recommended it to anyone either.

For bad audiobooks . . . I know I'll catch hell for this, but "Gone With the Wind" was terrible.

I barely got past chapter 7 on The Casual Vacancy.
