C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4476 comments You have until 16th to post a poem, and from the 17th to the 23rd we will vote for which one we thought was best!

Please post directly into the topic and not a link. Please don’t use a poem previously used in this group. Only one submission per person is allowed.

Your poem can be any length.

This week’s topic is: Amethyst Color

The rules are pretty loose. You could write a poem about anything that has to do with the subject/photo but it must relate to the topic somehow.

Most of all have fun!

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10115 comments POET: Garrison Kelly
TITLE: Mosquitos
GENRE: Mental Health Poetry
RATING: PG-13 for language

You’re buzzing all around me like a mosquito
Feasting on flesh like a microwave burrito
Puking your poison over everything I love
Amythest colors drowned in shit from above
Every insult against me is a secret confession
Yet you yak your ass off like it’s your profession
If you buzz and bite for a long enough time
You buy space in my head for pennies on the dime
Just when I’m ready to stare into the void
Here come more mosquitos to keep me annoyed
There’s not enough bug spray on the planet
To make the army of bastards suddenly vanish
There’s not enough fire to match all my anger
To turn this epic war into an apocalyptic banger
I sleep for the night, no buzzing in my dreams
Then I awaken to see them swarming in teams
Being fucked up in the head is a lifelong job
No vacation days, those are only for slobs
No lunch breaks when I want to eat the rich
No free healthcare, pay for every single stitch
If fighting mental mosquitos is a real vocation
I’m the regional manager of every location
I ain’t the CEO, because I have no control
I ain’t the president, just look at the poll
I’d ask for my flowers, but the bugs like plants
Just keep kicking my ass, I’ll drop my pants
They don’t call it an insect infestation
They call it schizophrenia and call me a patient

By Brett A. Starr on February 2, 2024

Purple, violet, raspberry
Grape, mauve, mulberry
Lilac, lavender, indigo
And even the color heliotrope.

These shades of purple are amethyst.
This pretty stone treats sleeplessness.
Used for pain and anxiety.
Will bring you peace and harmony.

They say that diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
And the ruby’s red hue never ends.
The pearls have their white purity.
And the emeralds are green with clarity.

The opals glow their glossy rays.
The onyx helps our darkest days.
The topaz shines of yellow bright
The sapphire boasts its bold blue light.

But purple is for royalty.
Since the days of antiquity.
One of these stands above the rest –
The serene and spiritual amethyst!

M | 11617 comments I just read Garrison’s “Mosquitos.” These lines are my favorites of the fireworks: “If fighting mental mosquitos is a real vocation / I’m the regional manager of every location.”

Rhett’s “Amethyst,” an interesting catalog, in rhyming couplets, of precious and semi-precious stones, is very enjoyable to read!

Brett Starr | 291 comments thank you, M. in doing research, and writing this poem, I have more appreciation for the amethyst gem and color. which marvel comics infinity stone is purple?

message 9: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Interesting question! I have no idea. The comics I read were Eerie and Vampirella, from a different publisher.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4476 comments Contest will be delayed for just a bit. Stay tuned and read the posts before the polls show up. You have time! Or post a poem for this week if you haven't yet. Stuff is busy with me and at latest (might do before then) will have about two more days (three.?) or less. There's a lot on my plate right now though.

Maria (mariasaleem) | 119 comments Since the new contest hasn't been posted, hope it's ok to still submit for this one lol. It's ok if doesn't count. I just wanted to share. Feeling inspired after so long! <3

Flowers Miss You

Soothing winds and ocean blue
Among the flowers, I missed you

Though my soul is shrouded in grey
sometimes the sun does breaks through
Under there is a pinkish hue
Maybe some amethyst, too

Bubbles sparkle in sunshine
Nemesia sis, where are you?

Maria (mariasaleem) | 119 comments Context for my poem: I went to a flower show today! And missed a friend.

Ooh, Garrison, yours has flowers too! Your poem has power and intensity, as always! My favourites lines:

Feasting on flesh like a microwave burrito
Puking your poison over everything I love
You buy space in my head for pennies on the dime
There’s not enough fire to match all my anger [favourite!]
No lunch breaks when I want to eat the rich
No free healthcare, pay for every single stitch
[I guess I love politics lol]

Brett, those are cute! I like that I'm learning! I didn't know those things about amethyst. Favourite lines:

The onyx helps our darkest days
The sapphire boasts its bold blue light (love it!)
