I started book 1 yesterday and really like the reader! I am taking a trip this weekend and look forward to getting a chunk listened to.

Beginning - hour 3 (approximately): (view spoiler)[I am intrigued by how Sebastian will get out of this mess; I also hope that Maitland is found out as the man who stabbed the young constable. There are a lot of characters but the narrator is amazing and I am able to follow along with few problems. Who was Rachel going to meet at the church? How did the murderer get away if they were covered in blood? Between 5:00 and 8:00 in the evening is not that late, surely people would have been around? (hide spoiler)]

Hours 3-6 (approximately): (view spoiler)[I’m sucked into this one for sure! I am loving the character of Tommy and am so worried something is going to happen to him. This book is not pulling any punches. I really, really like the narrator…she is making it easy to keep the characters straight based on her voice acting. Any time I am coming up with a hypothesis of who might have done it, something else comes out and I have to rethink everything… (hide spoiler)]

Hours 7-9 (approximately): (view spoiler)[I cannot believe Sebastian had the great bad luck to be recognized coming out of Mary's rooms...how on earth does the author plan to extricate him from all of this? Maybe the fact that he wasn't covered in blood will make Lovejoy rethink if Sebastian is guilty? Everything is getting more and more complicated - I do not have any idea how author's plot out mysteries but man, CS Harris has figured out a good one! (hide spoiler)]

Hours 10-End: (view spoiler)[That was certainly a very exciting ending! It will be interesting to see if there are consequences in later books for how those in the know decided to handle the knowledge of the villain in this book. I really love the idea of Cat and Sebastian being together but this author is not shying away from the realities of this time and how unlikely it is. I look forward to book 2. (hide spoiler)]

Sebastian has certainly gotten himself wrapped up in a tricky situation here. I wonder who is trying to frame Sebastian? Lord Jarvis seems to know he didn't kill the girl but wants him to take the fall, why? And with this Maitland accidentally stabbing another constable and blaming Sebastian for it, he has the cops after him for more than one thing now. I'm curious to see how he manages to get out of this situation.

There certainly are quite a number of suspects, aren't there? So Sebastian's father is the one Rachel was meeting but she was killed before he got there. I wonder what he was meeting her for? He sad it was to buy something, but what? I like how Sebastian uses various disguises to conduct his investigation.

Of all he suspects, Bayard seems most likely with that violent streak he has but he seems to have an alibi. I wonder if the police are wrong about the time of death? And Sebastian is in so deep now that I can't see how he'll manage to get himself out of this.

The ending was a surprise as I hadn't worked out the killer at all, they came out of nowhere. I don't imagine Sebastian will be able to stay away from solving mysteries so I'm looking forward to more of that. I don't love his romance with Kat but maybe it will grow on me as the series goes on.

Chap. 1-17: (view spoiler)[This is another interesting start to what will most certainly be an intriguing mystery with lots of twists and turns. Why was Gwendolyn using a hackney - was she cheating on the Marquiss? Was the baby even his? I am really hoping she is as honest and trustworthy as a lot of people are insisting she is. I love that Tom is a part of Sebastian's world now, I really like him as a character. I still want so badly for Sebastian and Kat to be together - class restrictions be darned! Looking forward to learning more... (hide spoiler)]

Chap, 18-34 (view spoiler)[ This is getting confusing - more and more characters are being added without the mystery really progressing. It seems that Sebastian has as many questions or more than he did when he started (hide spoiler)]

Chap. 35-50 (view spoiler)[Poor Tom - that was awful! I am not enjoying the descriptions of violence against people during the war or other parts of history and with it being audio, it is hard to "skim" them. I know that these things happened, but I read to escape, and this book is getting darker and darker. (hide spoiler)]

Chap. 51-End (view spoiler)[This is an infuriating ending...Guinevere's death was a convoluted plot to use her after she found out something she shouldn't have...most of the people involved are still unidentified, and...AND SEBASTIAN'S MOTHER IS ALIVE??? What the heck? (hide spoiler)]

The regent caught with a dead woman in his arms, that's not going to go well for him with the public. But she seems to have been killed somewhere else and left there. By who? And where was it Lady Guinevere was going when she'd leave the house by herself?

The connection to the exiled Stuart family is interesting. I can see why people would think they would be better rulers with how mad the Hanover House is. But what's the connection between Guinevere and this political scheme? Was she targeted for a reason or was she just convenient? I still don't love the romance between Sebastian and Kat, they just don't fit in my opinion.

Ok so this all definitely has something to do with overthrowing the current monarchy. But what does Guinevere have to do with it? It seems like she was just caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. But at the same time, someone broke into her rooms and was looking for something. I wonder if she figured out what was going on? I'm so glad Sebastian was able to get Tom out before he was hanged. That poor kid.

So Guinevere's death was because she stumbled across information she shouldn't have. The fact Varden claimed to have loved her and let her get killed like that is terrible. I wonder who else was involved in the conspiracy to overthrow the monarchy? They didn't find them all so I could foresee some of those people popping up later in the series. Also, I didn't see Sebastian's mother being alive coming. The fact she left and everyone let Sebastian think she was dead is horrible.

The mystery in this one is interesting so far. Who killed these two young men? And what's the deal with how they were killed? The mutilation is extreme but the killer must have a reason for it? And why do their fathers not want Sebastian looking into their deaths? They must be hiding something. I wonder what Jarvis wants with Kat?

So the fathers are definitely connected through the Harmony. I wonder if Sebastian is right that they resorted to cannibalism when their ship was damaged in that storm? It would make sense with the way the victims had chunks of flesh cut off. And is Lord Jarvis right that Hero is in danger? And what will Kat do about what Jarvis wants from her?

Ok so they definitely resorted to cannibalism, it's so clear at this point. That poor boy. I wonder if Jarvis's son was hurt trying to stop it? I feel bad for Sebastian as Kat has no intention of marrying him. I may not like their relationship but they clearly love each other. Also, I'm dying to know what the intel Yates has on Jarvis is? Hopefully we learn that at some point in the series.

So it was the cabin boy who was eaten and his father who was killing everyone. I feel so bad for the boy. And for Jarvis's son, he tried to stop them. And now Kat is married to someone else. Obviously she and Sebastian aren't related since the Earl isn't Sebastian's father but they think they are which makes it so rough. I wonder when they'll learn the truth.

I'm liking this one a lot so far. I've enjoyed Hero's character in the previous books so I'm excited for her to get a larger role. I'm also looking forward to seeing her work with Sebastian. The mystery surrounding this Rose girl is interesting so far and I wonder who had her killed? And who was she really?

So Hero was right and the girl was gently bred. I wonder what caused Rachel to flee from her family and her betrothed? And the fact Ramsey found her and then told her brother, who pretended not to know when Sebastian asked, makes me wonder if he was involved in her death. Also, Hero was fantastic during that attack on her carriage. She certainly didn't hold back.

This has definitely gone in a direction I wasn't expecting. And I'm beginning to suspect Rachel was SA'ed by her father from a young age. It would fit with why she ran away and where she ended up. But who had her killed? I was not expecting that development between Hero and Sebastian. I'm interested to see how their relationship changes because of it.

So I was right about what was done to Rachel by her father (and it seems he did it to her sisters as well). He should have been punished for that. The men behind all this being military wasn't what I had expected, also hadn't seen the plot about killing the Prime Minister coming. So everything that happened was just because the women overheard their plan, it had nothing to do with who Rachel was. I really enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to the next book and seeing what will happen between Sebastian and Hero.

This one is interesting so far. I wonder if the Bishop's murder is connected to the older body found in the crypt? It seems like it might be since the other dead man seems to be from around the American Revolution and the Bishop had prejudices surrounding that. Also, I wonder when Sebastian will find out Hero is pregnant with his child? And how that will go over.

I wonder what this mission to America was about? Nigel, Jarvis, and Sebastian's father were all involved. Obviously it had something to do with the war, but what? And Sebastian is definitely getting closer to figuring out Hero is pregnant. I don't imagine she'll admit that easily.

The fact Nigel discovered evidence of a traitor is interesting and I wonder if it has to do with his death? Or was the death about his wife stepping out on him? Sebastian is so close to figuring out Hendon is not his father. I don't imagine that is going to go well once he confronts him. And now it seems he's about to confront Hero about the pregnancy.

I hadn't expected the Bishop's chaplain to have been the one to kill him or why. But Nigel's wife being the one who killed him did make sense. I'm curious what will happen now with Sebastian and Hero as she's told him she doesn't want to marry but after her conversation with her father at the end, it's clear she can't go away to have the child like she thought because of her mother.

This is good so far. I wonder how it was missed that Ross was murdered? The doctor who called it must have been terribly inept or he was told to mark the death as a heart attack. The fact Ross worked for the foreign office makes it seem like his death will have something to do with his work, but what exactly? I'm so glad we're getting more of Hero and Sebastian together, I really enjoy them together.

How is the death of this American man connected to Ross's death? Does it have something to do with Jasper Cox's trade business? With the way he rushed Hero out of her meeting with Sabrina, he definitely seems suspicious.

This whole business with the gold is interesting and makes me wonder how it's connected to the deaths. Was the person who killed the Swede the same person who killed the other two? I still think Jasper Cox was involved somehow. He just seems suspicious.

I wasn't expecting there to be so many different killers, three people to kill all the victims. I like how Sebastian and Hero worked it all out in the end. I'm interested to see how their relationship develops now that they're married.

Who is trying to kill Sebastian now? It doesn't seem like he's done enough to piss anyone off yet but with him I guess you never know. I'm curious if this Jamie Knox fellow will end up being Sebastian's half-brother as he certainly looks like it. Also, does Gabrielle discovering this forgery have something to do with her death?

I swear if Hero and Sebastian would just be fully honest with each other, these two could probably work out who killed Gabrielle. They both have bits of information the other doesn't. Also Childe being a pedophile isn't a surprise and I like how Hero threatened him about it.

I hadn't expected Gabrielle's brother at all but it makes sense now. I honestly figured it was the cousin (the MP) that Sebastian kept going back to question. I'm glad Hero and Sebastian worked out some of their problems although those two definitely still have some communication issues to resolve.

All this stuff about the stolen French crown jewels is pretty interesting and I wonder if the diamond Eisler was trying to sell really was the French Blue. Devlin breaking into Eisler's house at the same time as two other people was funny and I love that he got a cat out of it which he took home. I'm enjoying Devlin's and Hero's relationship and I love how she helps him with the cases he works.

This whole diamond business is getting even more interesting. So the French obviously knew Eisler had the diamond but they're still looking for it so who actually took it? I'm starting to wonder if that woman at the beginning of the book is the one who took it after she came out of her hiding spot after Eisler's death.

I didn't suspect Devlin's friend of being the killer but that was a neat way to tie everything together. I was also surprised that Yates was killed right after being released from prison, which was surely Jarvis's work. Overall this was another great installment in the series.

It seems like it would as it would be way too much of a coincidence otherwise. I'm also interested in Alexi's character as a female physician is so rare from that time period.

This is getting even more interesting. So it sounds like the doctor was either killed to stop the delegation, as revenge for his father failing to save the young prince, or due to a jealous husband? A lot of people wanted this man dead. Also I'm worried about Hero, it doesn't sound good that her baby is currently breech. I hope they'll be able to do something about that.

Ok so I definitely think Bullock is behind some of what happened. I think he's the one who blew up Alexi's room. Maybe some of the other stuff as well. I'm beginning to think that Marie Therese is the one behind the other deaths though.

Damion potentially being the lost prince is an interesting take. The way the story is written, it seems plausible. Bullock being the one to kill him while Giselle took his heart definitely confused things for Devlin since the crime wasn't done by one person. Hero being the one to stop Bullock was a nice touch. I'm glad her and Devlin's baby ended up being ok. Overall I enjoyed this one.

I did not suspect Knightley of being the killer but once Sebastian laid it all out, it makes sense. And I like that Jarvis took care of Oliphant after he inadvertently put Hero in danger. Overall this was a good one and I'm looking forward to reading the next book soon.

So Emma was the bastard daughter of a gentlewoman who was raped. I wonder which of the men on the list is her father? I wonder if her father was Lord Seaton and someone in the family killed her because Seaton's son was in love with her (not knowing should could be his sister obviously).

So I didn't get the killer right but I was right that Emma was Seaton's daughter. Guess it's a good thing her and Crispin didn't marry. I hadn't suspected Jude as the killer, I had actually mostly forgotten him. Overall I enjoyed this one.

I'm still not sure at this point who the killer is. I wonder if it's Sir Pugh, the guy Sebastian saw at the brothel? That would be convenient for Jarvis, wouldn't it? And I really hope Tom doesn't get grabbed by this guy, he's the right age and eve though Sebastian is trying to keep him on the sidelines, Tom isn't one to obey.

Well I got the killer wrong, it ended up being Jarvis's cousin. But I was right that the guy ended up nabbing Tom, I'm glad Sebastian got there before Rowe did too much damage. Kind of disappointing that Ashworth has gotten away with it for now, hopefully he'll get his due soon. And maybe I'm just a cynic, but I have a feeling Hero's cousin had something to do with Lady Jarvis's death.

So at this point I'm still not entirely sure why Jane was killed but my best guess is that it has something to do with the royal family. It makes the most sense. Caroline seems like she may know something but I doubt she'd ever tell.

I still can't figure out who killed Jane. Her husband seems likely and so does Rothchild but I'm not sure. I feel like it must have something to do with the information about the Prince of Orange that everyone wanted kept from Charlotte.

You know I don't think I suspected the brother of being the killer at any point. It being an accident though makes that make more sense. The bit with the Hesse letters was interesting, I've read about them before in a historical romance. Overall I enjoyed this one.

This is good so far. I'm glad someone finally killed Ashworth, he deserved it for what he was doing to those street children. I wonder who it was though? Stephanie is acting oddly so I could see it being her but it may be that she's just relieved someone else killed him.

There are just way too many suspects because pretty much everyone hated Ashworth. And what Ashworth did to Stephanie was terrible and the revelation that her own father was raping her from the time she was 7 years old. I'm really glad the guy died at the beginning of the series.

At this point I'm half convinced this Russian princess is the one that killed Ashworth but I just don't know. The man simply had way too many enemies. I also have a feeling Stephanie's twins aren't Ashworth's and are actually the architect guy's.

Ok I did not see it coming that Ashworth's father was the one who killed him. I really figured it was going to be the Russians. And I was right that Stephanie's babies were the architects. Overall I enjoyed this one.

I'm enjoying this so far. The fact a peer's son actually faced consequences is a surprise, they usually get away with everything. I wonder if Hayes really killed that woman or if it was just her husband that did it. And why would Hayes come back to England?

I do wonder if Ji is Hayes' son because that would certainly mess things up for the current Earl. So far the most likely suspects are the Count, the Earl, and probably the banker guy whose daughter Hayes was in love with.

At this point I'm starting to think all four men were in cahoots and killed Hayes together. It would make the most sense since they all knew he was alive and in England and did nothing about it. I do wonder if he was there for revenge over his dead daughter?

So the banker is the one who killed him and several of the others with the Frenchman killing Seaforth as well as the banker and Forbes. In some way they were all responsible for what happened. I like that Kate is going to take in Hayes' daughter Ji. Overall this was another good one.

This is good so far. So I think the murders likely are connected with the ones from 3 years ago, it's too much of a coincidence otherwise. But is it the same killer or someone connected with them? I have my doubts the original guy Williams was actually the killer.

Ok at this point I'm not sure who killed these people. But I think Sebastian is on the right track with the whole corruption thing and the breweries, particularly with the one sending people to attack him. Also I don't know why Hero was so quick to believe her father didn't have Williams killed. He's a known liar and manipulator.

Alright so now I'm wondering if all these deaths are somehow tied to the mutiny on that ship? Someone from each killing was connected to it somehow it seems. And I wonder if it is this brewer that's sending all these people after Devlin? Also, I was right several books ago when I sad Jarvis was going to get with his late wife's cousin.

Ok so the killers were three of the men in that mutiny and it was all orchestrated by the brewers and corrupt magistrates. This ended up being a really interesting mystery and I enjoyed it. I am curious what will happen now that Sebastian and Hero have his nephew since Pippa left him with them.

This is good so far. I can't believe Sebastian got that close to seeing his mother again and she's killed before he has the chance to do more than see her die. I wonder what she was killed for? Well I wasn't expecting Napoleon to make a break for it, I wonder if he'll make it back (I'm admittedly a little shaky on how this part of history actually happened). Sophie seems to have such an odd assortment of friends. I feel like her death definitely had to do with getting Napoleon back but who did it?

Someone trying to kidnap one of their kids was crazy, I'm glad that Hero managed to get Patrick back before the person got away with him. And also I think they made the right choice sending the kids back to London with Hendon. So this talisman thing is interesting and it definitely seems like that's why Sophie got killed. I'm still not sure at this point who did it.

You know I didn't suspect Fanny at all, I thought she was just some flighty English woman. And the other person was unknown to the reader so great job on the author keeping the killers' identities secret. Overall I really enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

This one is good so far. Alexi's husband being murdered is an interesting mystery to solve. I wonder what it is that she hasn't told Sebastian as Gibson said she didn't tell him everything. And the victim's interest and witches and stuff is interesting so I wonder if that will tie in to his murder.

Alright so at this point it seems Miles was killed over this list of traitors who passed info to the French. I wonder who has the list now? It must be whoever killed him as that makes the most sense. All this witchcraft and folklore stuff does still seem like it could have something to do with his death based on how he was killed. And with the other two bodies, it's got to be all connected.

I wonder what Miles did with the baby he took from Phoebe? I really hope he didn't just kill it. At this point, there are so many people who wanted Miles dead that I haven't a clue who actually killed him. And now it seems the French assassin Gabriel is watching Kat. I didn't like her with Sebastian but I do like her character so I hope she isn't killed.

I don't think I suspected Tiptoff at all of being the murderer nor of being Gabriel. I like how Sebastian and Hero figured it out. Also, I'm glad that Alexi managed to find the baby and that she hadn't been killed. And I'm so glad Gibson is finally going to let Alexi try to help him with his leg! Overall I really enjoyed this one.

This is good so far. I feel so bad for Sir Henry, this murder is basically just shoving his wife and daughter's murders in his face and he doesn't deserve that. I do wonder if it's the same killer or if someone just took inspiration from the original murders?

So at this point I'm not sure who killed Laura and her daughter but my best guess is the baby farmers. If they really were killing the infants in their care and Laura exposed them, that's a death sentence for them. Although Rhodes is also a good possibility and now we know Laura's friend knew about the guy's bad habits and sent him after Laura over it.

Still not sure who killed Laura and Emma at this point. All this stuff coming out about her supposed affair with Finch and Emma possible being his is crazy. I wonder if there's any truth to it? Also Jarvis is really unhappy with Devlin for going after one of Prinny's bastards. Hopefully that doesn't backfire.

I didn't expect the children were the ones who committed the murders. They're nuts and Salinger killing his son and trying to kill his daughter after learning the truth was not where I expected that to go. And I'm so happy Gibson is finally going to try Alexi's mirror box to help with his pain! I hope it works for him.

This is good so far. It seems like Farnsworth likely had more enemies than anyone realized with the work he did for the Society. I wonder if he maybe pissed off the wrong person? Or would Sebastian's friend Hugh be the killer? He certainly has motive.

At this point I don't think it was anyone Farnsworth helped prosecute that killed him. I think it may have something to do with his work for the Society though so I'm not sure. This guy definitely had a lot of enemies.

Farnsworth being engaged to Amanda is not a surprise at all, those two were so alike. I'm not entirely sure who killed Farnsworth (and the others) at this point but I'm interested to see who it is.

You know I didn't expect the sister or the magistrate of being the ones who helped Farnsworth of killing all those young women. Farnsworth's death makes more sense now. But who went after Hero? I imagine that will be a plot point in the next book whenever that comes out. Overall I enjoyed this one.
