Deb Omnivorous Reader | 61 comments Hi good librarians- love your work!
I hope someone can explain a strange oddity I have been seeing these last few months.
Today I used the cover scanner to add Lyonesse by Jack Vance. ISBN 0586060278
It was not possible, GR insistes there is a second author (one I have not heard of) and that is just NOT the case. Nor is it the first time. It's this some scamy way to take credit for other peoples work? Or a glitch?

A while back, a couple of months, I was trying to search by author and I kept being diverted to a weird page, with the same name but no missle inital.

And now I doubt myself. On the laptop he comes up at illustrator, so/ On the app it comes up as 'by Jack Vance and Mick Van Houten' and, If you follow that link https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Lyonesse is listed as 'his' book.

This is probably a quibble, and, I have been complaining for ages about illustrators of covers not being given enough credit because their art is often spectacular and often uncredited. But is the book whose cover he illustrated really 'his' book?

Ok, an app problem then, I guess. I went to two of the other 'odd or fake' author pages I found while trying to check books on my phone earlier today. There was a 'clifford simak' that was not real and a misspelled Robert Heinlein that would not let me get past to to the REAL author.

Thank you for your swift response, Miriam. I do still think there is something strange happening with author pages (and with the app) but the app is... what it is.

Martin | 35313 comments Cover artists should not be credited as authors. Only an artist for an illustrated edition, with their work throughout the book, should be credited.

Ok, well, here is another one: Why does the cover of this book list one editor; Ed Yong, but the GR page list this book as being by Ed Yong AND Jaime Green?

A lot of incorrect data on Goodreads are just mistakes with various causes and are not scams or such.
Source from which Goodreads import its data might do things different from our policies here. On Amazon you can find many self-published books with cover illustrators listed and the types of editors we don't list here for example.
