Kat Medina | 66 comments What is your favorite self-help book and why?

I'll start!

Everything by Brené Brown (The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, Dare to Lead, Atlas of the Heart). She is real, yet insightful. Her books have helped me in my professional and personal relationships and inspire me to grow, be authentic, and choose courage.

Donna Comeaux (donnabcomeaux) | 105 comments I have two:

Style - Lessons in Clarity and Grace by Joseph M. Williams

Stein on Writing by Sol Stein

Sol's book on writing is probably my favorite go-to book while writing. This guy doesn't waste paper. He carefully says what's necessary and isn't stingy with examples. He's taught me a lot about how to write flashbacks as if they're happening in the present. And he's careful to explain POV in a way you can understand. My copy of his book is littered with different colored stickies, with a few paper clips, too.

You can buy this book "used" on Amazon for a fraction of the cost.

Both sound amazing, and I'm especially intrigued by Stein on Writing as an author myself! Thank you so much for sharing.

David Parish | 4 comments I'm going to go with Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, by Susan Cain. I bought this to try and learn how to relate better with an introverted son, and though it helped enormously with that, I ended up learning more about myself. Not a classic "self-help" book, it nonetheless provides tremendous insight into those of us who prefer to remain at the fringes.

That sounds like a wonderful and eye-opening book. Thank you for sharing!

Frances Applequist | 5 comments My favorite self-help book does not fall into that category. it is a journal titled, The Happiness Journal, and it provides prompts like list "What Brings you happiness " and "Celebrate Your Successes" by listing them. this little book keeps me focused on the positives in my life, and I received it in a subscription box from the My Happy Life group.

Karin Adams (karin_adams) | 15 comments Thanks to all who've posted so far-- great book suggestions/reading reminders!

I'm sure many would agree with me that Atomic Habits by James Clear is very self-helpful. :) His overarching message that small, consistent actions can result in great change plays out in so many areas (personal, professional). Illuminated areas that were working in my life (and why) and caused me to think how I could creatively apply the same principles in other areas where I wanted to see some change and growth.

I was also very taken with the book "The Truth About Style" by Stacy London. The writing itself was so well done, and Stacy's personal story was interesting and moving. So much more than a book about clothing and image (although, great tips there, too) - really a book about personal confidence and self-worth.

Let me tell you all more about this amazing book...
This book was written not only to share a real life story but also to educated youths/ adults that they can reach they goal despite the many challenges that life brings their way. But mostly about a higher being who is always ready and willing to help them alone the way (God). This book is a blessing be bless and share the good news. #You_are_not_alone.

This is an amazing seld help book because it teaches individuals the importance of aiming for the stars despite the many challenges life may bring our way and much more.
