Too many books, not enough Librarians?

Hi Irene
Thanks for taking the time to make a suggestion about this.
If you want anyone else to see it you need to select a folder. Questions would be best.
Over the years a few of us have suggested variations of this. One of the Supers(now vanished from the site) had quite a detailed idea for multiple layers of librarian which he gave in the old & much missed Feedback Group.
Personally, I don't think every librarian needs to be able to do Awards (format is tricky) Series (Goodreads rules are different from other sites) adding author photos to Authors that aren't Goodreads authors. (I have removed many where the librarian who put it up doesn't understand what Public Domain means)
I find adding a completely new book easier than adding another edition - but either way it isn't too hard.
There is very little staff presence in this group now. If you don't get any staff response after you shift this you could try contacting Support (Staff) here.

I'm surprised that Goodreads doesn't make more use of Zoom etc for training, getting messages out to Librarians and helping to build the community.
I would have appreciated more training early on, as it is, I've picked up tips from the Librarians Group and looked at how more experienced Librarians do things. I've just got on with it as I enjoy it, although it is annoying when you've tidied up a section only for the bots for put everything back again!
There is no requirement to pick up requests on the Librarians Group and I'm afraid that I don't regularly check the folders and respond to requests as I usually have enough to do. It's a good point about picking up on requests for new additions and I'll try and check more frequently.

I have some suggestions:
1. Librarian tiers - eg if I were a 'trainee' librarian I could just add new editions to existing records which (appears to me) is a lot less complicated than adding a complete new book etc using the info in the requests, or bouncing back requests that don't have enough info. That sort of job doesn't get into complications re Amazon and their monopoly.
2. Specific field librarians - maybe some could eg just find the right book covers or just merge records and only do that job instead of having to learn / do all the types of jobs. It would lessen the overwhelm of what job first, and break the training up into bite sized pieces.
3. Senior librarians could just do the tricky stuff and maybe mentor newer librarians to take on new tasks if a specific type of request starts to pile up.
