Sam | 248 comments We are running a bit late but can we have nominations for an April read? We can run the nominations for a week before putting up the poll.

Mike (myerstyson) | 58 comments Sorry guys, been traveling for work (or another 2 weeks). I'll try to get one up today.

Mike (myerstyson) | 58 comments OK, poll will be active tomorrow (GR won't allow you to start a poll on the current day).

Seana | 432 comments Hi, Michael. I have seen the poll, and would read either book, but I didn't see the post where people were asked to put up their suggestions. I only ask about this because when I looked back at the last poll, Young Man with a Horn came in a very close second to Hard Rain Falling, so it seems to me that it should at least be given a chance in the current poll.

This seems to me to be something of a problem with our selection process as I saw close runner ups dropped from the running the next time when we last tried to keep this ship afloat.

If I have missed something here, I apologize.

Sam | 248 comments I will take responsibility for the mixup. I posted the topic asking for April nominations without informing Michael. I think when he saw it he felt rushed to put up the poll and no one posted any nominations. I am not too particular about what I read so his choices were fine with me. I do think Young Man with a Horn is more of an autumn/winter read. Life with Picasso is a #NYRBwomen2024 read for May so I was going to nominate it then. Reading it a month earler would not hurt. Kingsley Amis seems hot right with the film version of Zone of Interest so I think that was a good choice as well. My choice would have been The Enchanted April, but maybe next year. In the meantime, I am good with whatever we choose. Most of the books are worth reading IMO.

Sam | 248 comments It appears I conflated Kingsley Amis and his son's books in my last post. Zone of Interest is by Martin Amis.

Brad | 3 comments How about “The Land Breakers” by John Ehle?

message 8: by Brad (new)

Brad | 3 comments Oh perhaps the poll is already up. Could someone explain to me where the poll is? Thanks. Sorry, I’m new to this.

On the group home page look for the link "polls" on the upper right of the page.

Mike (myerstyson) | 58 comments Shall we just go with Young Man with a Horn or Life with Picasso or do another, shorter poll? Sorry I haven't been as active. Just got back from a 2-week very busy business trip. My reading (and fitness) suffered!

message 11: by Sam (new)

Sam | 248 comments Sorry Michael, I haven't been getting back. I am happy with either Young Man or Life with Picasso so I will leave it to the other voters to decide. I am already committed to Life with Picasso in May with the #NYRB women2024 readalong. Btw, I am also plugging Love in a Fallen City by Eileen Chang for this month's #NYRBWomen2024. I am enjoying the stories, having not read Chang previously.

Sam | 248 comments Have we decided which book we are going to read?

message 13: by Seana (new)

Seana | 432 comments I'd say let's go with Life with Picasso then, since you've already started. Either that or we could flip a coin to decide between the tied top two.

message 14: by Cordelia (new)

Cordelia (anne21) | 22 comments I think I will read Life with Picasso

message 15: by Melody (new)

Melody Bush (mab4ksu) | 17 comments I’m good with that also.

message 16: by Sam (new)

Sam | 248 comments Sounds good.

message 17: by Seana (new)

Seana | 432 comments Sounds like we have a plan.

Wesley Allan | 2 comments Hello all! I haven't participated in the group read before, but I'd love to join this month. I'll read the other threads to make sure I know what to expect etc. Thanks!

Hello Wesley, We will have a discussion folder up soon. Feel free to join in the discussion when it is up. We've been pretty relaxed in the group with everyone reading on their own and posting if they wish.

Wesley Allan | 2 comments Thank you so much. I'm just starting the book, so I'm not sure when I will post.
