Sorry, no. Number in the title is a completely different challenge. 😉

Patrizia | 330 comments Sorry, I was misled by some books added to other people's topics. I would have just looked at the units of measurement for this task, but I saw titles with words like "stones", "pieces", etc. which for me have nothing to do with measurements. Or maybe it's my fault, that I am completely ignorant about the measurement system used in US.

message 28: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27500 comments Mod
From my online research:

A stone or stone unit of weight, the stone symbol is st. It is an English and imperial unit of mass that is equal to 14 pounds or approximately 6.35 kg.

As for “pieces,” my mind immediately went to the expression “pieces of eight—”

The Spanish dollar coin was worth eight reales and could be physically cut into eight pieces, or "bits," to make change -- hence the colloquial name "pieces of eight." The dollar coin could also be cut into quarters, and "two bits" became American slang for a quarter dollar, or 25 cents.

I thought this prompt was hard and I probably added to your confusion. I had no obvious measurements in any of my books titles and when I saw "stone", I thought it was used as a weight measurement and double checked on my dictionary app. Not sure if it's still really used but did come up as weight measurement mainly used in Britain.

Patrizia | 330 comments I'll leave that task for last and do some online research on measurement systems that aren't the metric decimal ones I'm used to.

Thank you, Meg. I've already read all my books with "cup" and "pint", but I found a couple with "stone", so now that I know it's also a unit of measurement, I'd say I'm good to go.
