Caroline I'm reading Game of Thrones right now and I really want to watch the show alongside it. I've tried to find somewhere recommended reading per episode, but to no avail.
Does anyone know where I can find something like this?

There you go, a chart of which chapters appear in which episodes.

Thank you! Such help from a fellow Caroline! :)

Caroline You're welcome :) As you see, you'll probably want to do the books and series separately after season one. The first season follows the book timeline pretty accurately, but then it starts jumping everywhere.

Laura Herzlos By season 4, it becomes a fanfic and a lot of the stories change beyond recognition. Also, the characters' personalities and motivations change substantially from the books.

Emma I think the first 2 books are pretty much exactly the same, (except for Theon's ending). I'm almost half way through book 3 and so far it's the same story line, however there are some big differences now. Yet its still sort of the same... if that makes sense?

By this time I'm really wishing I read the books first, but when the show first came out and I started watching I was like 15 and didn't even know it was a book... *cries* oh well.

Laura Herzlos Yes, so far it follows. It's later that the stories will start branching away. The most difficult thing for my partner (who also saw the TV show first) was to "forget" what he knew about the characters, to get to know them, if that makes any sense. For example, Dorea. He told me he couldn't help mistrusting the character because of what she ends up doing in the TV show, even though there's nothing of the sort in the books (quite the opposite, actually).

Emma @Laura and what else is also annoying sometimes I forget or get confused about what happenes in the book and what happens in the show... not major events, just little things.
