Ella Bruno | 1 comments Greetings, book lovers! I'm seeking beta readers for my novel "Of Darker Things Than Dreams," approx. 125,000 words. It most resembles the 5th Wave, The Darkest Minds, and a few elements of the Maze Runner. It's high-stakes with many layers of mystery, focusing on two converging storylines of young parent-figures upending their happy post-apocolyptic lives to save/protect two children they aren't qualified to save/protect.

BOOK BLURB:
Marium took the end of the world as an excellent excuse to leave society behind. But after a year of living alone in the Colorado mountains, she’s thrust into an unlikely friendship with a young girl who awoke from the Tremors—the very thing that left most people dead, some comatose, and the rest struggling to survive in the aftermath.

There’s just one problem: the Tremors were not what Marium once believed, and discovering the truth could get both girls killed.

Oliver was a floundering father before the Tremors hit, and now he must protect his son, who has begun to show signs of that inexplicable disease. When Oliver loses what matters most, he must test his limits as a father and, somehow, a leader.

Marium and Oliver’s stories intersect in their pursuits to save two children who are connected in a conspiracy that goes all the back to how the Tremors first began.

BETA READERS:
I'll type up some more specific questions if you're on board, but here's some general feedback I'm hoping to get from a beta reader:
-Developmental feedback on the progression from the mid-point to the climax
-How you view the relationships between the characters, what stands out, and what falls flat
-The general understandability (is that a word?) of the science itself

I'm also happy to send the first few chapters if you want to see if this is your type of gig.

The book has been read by two beta readers so far and gone through extensive edits by yours truly (me). I'm looking for more sets of eyes and some general feedback before I query agents!

I'm also very willing to do a critique swap if you're interested! I'm not currently reading anyone else's work, so I'm very open.
