Mike | 5 comments Orient by Christopher Bollen - figured being a Long Island native and familiar with Orient this would be an enjoyable read - Wrong. It was a never developing story, I kept waiting for something to happen, some plot to develop but over half way through I finally put it aside. First time I ever didn't finish a book.

Babs Fernandez | 11 comments The worst book I ever read was Jonathan Living Seagull. It was required reading and we spent 9 weeks discussing it.
However, recently I would have to go with 365 days. I gave it one star.

message 117: by Susan (new)

Susan Vrabel-Williams | 26 comments Without a doubt... Forrest Gump. I couldn't finish it, it was so awful. How they managed to get such a good (mostly) movie out of that ridiculous book, I'll never know!

message 118: by Viggo (new)

Viggo Pedersen | 16 comments I did both of them in the military.
Forrest Gump was such a fun read, whereas the movie is not good.

message 127: by The Raven King (new)

The Raven King - Feyzan (theravenkingx) | 56 comments Hamnet.(worst book of all time for me)
The haunting of hajji houtak. (merely written for white people to get some awards)

message 128: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn (evelyntheshadowsinger) | 39 comments Valiant by Holly Black which is strange because I love the Cruel Prince

message 129: by Doris (new)

Doris (dorisb) | 104 comments Lots of those on my list are not great books, partly because my tastes change over time.

Of Mice and Men.
The Grapes of Wrath.
Paradise Lost.

I've never managed to make it past the first few pages of Gone With the Wind, although friends insist it's the best book ever.

Flowers in the Attic,
and all it's sequels. i finished the furst, tissed the rest.

message 130: by Doris (new)

Doris (dorisb) | 104 comments Some people have Wuthering Heights on their lists. It's at the edge for me, not quite awful. Same for Little Women.

message 135: by Jasmin (new)

Jasmin (jasminsoraya) midnight library, sorry like the concept was great and cool but the book and the writing style just no

message 136: by Astraea (new)

Astraea Wren | 1 comments Honestly, off the top of my head, the Defiance trilogy by CJ Redwine. I had so much hope for it and remember reading the first book as a teen. I went back to read it all and just couldn't. The plot was there, but the descriptions were so flat and generic (of characters and places) I just couldn't pull myself into it like other YA books I've read.

Also Thirst Trap by Quin Hawthorne. First half was pretty good but the second half, PURE CHAOS. Lost plot and things just were NOT connecting. It felt very rushed and not thought out. So much detail was left to the wind. While I can come up with my own theories to make said connections it leaves much to be desires and had my brain doing circles.

message 137: by Hallie (last edited Sep 02, 2024 09:56PM) (new)

Hallie | 20 comments I tend to DNF books more these days that don't work for me, but a couple from the last few years that stand out are:

War and Peace: One of the only books that I've finished that I truly despise with the intensity of a thousand burning suns. Picked it up because since I adore Anna Karenina, I thought I'd like this too. SO wrong. All this is is a soap opera with some war drama, and even that's boring and convoluted. The characters are pretty much all whiny and annoying, so I wasn't sure why I was supposed to care about any of them, and any philosophical points, etc. Tolstoy wanted to make, he was beating the reader over the head with (WHY DOES THIS BOOK REQUIRE A SECOND EPILOGUE ON "WHAT FORCE MOVES THE NATIONS?" WHO CARES?!). Anyway, that's two months of my life I'll never get back.

Heartless Hunter, by Kristen Ciccarelli: DNFed less than halfway through because this book might have the most toxic romance I've ever seen. One of those books where I can't understand why it's rated so highly on Goodreads. I like romantasy, at least some of the time, but this was just SO INCREDIBLY BAD.

Tara Warner (mermaid_stuckonland18) | 26 comments Powerless (too much like The Hunger Games, which I believe it was inspired by) and Heartless Hunter (DNFed almost halfway through. I did not like the romance at all. I think it should have gone a different route.)

Not trying to start anything but I'm curious what you didn't like about the Hunger Games? Or is it more of a general "just didn't feel the vibe" dislike

message 144: by Michele (new)

Michele Shreve (michele_shreve24) | 2 comments The Secret History by Donna Tart and Either/Or by Elif Bauman.

I dislike both for the same reason. Its all about these almost spoiled college like kids who worry more about themselves then anything else. Plus it annoys me cuz i read them with such high hope because they are so highly rated but I cannot understand the hype
