OK, as long as you are reading it during BOM you can do it. So if you want to use it, don't finish The Familiar before BOM starts! Hope that helps.
Also, such a good book - finished it like month ago!

I’m probably going to work on checking shelves this afternoon/evening. So… if you want to double check all your books are on your Book Games shelf - that would me most lovely.
Happy Friday!!

Build Your Shelter Mini Challenge
Learn how to make the best shelter
Read books with the following MPG to create your shelter. Your team can read each genre a maximum of 3 times:
Non Fiction
-Specifically focused on survival in extreme conditions, wilderness survival, or emotional and psychological resilience.
Romance
- Use the bed sheets for a tent!
Science Fiction
- To gather some advanced materials for your shelter.
Historical Fiction
- So you can lay the foundations and learn from the past.
Mystery
- Enhancing your problem solving skills.
Thriller
- Create a camoflage and protect against the unknown.
Fantasy
- Enables you to use magical elements to strengthen your shelter.
Nature
- Use the nautural elements to survive in your shelter.
Contemporary
- These will give you new ideas for patterns and methods for creating your shelter.
Young Adult
- No shelter is awkward, and therefore complete, without a love triangle.
Literary Fiction
- You may need to take your time making a shelter, so this genre will help build your patience.
Crime
- They are out to kill you. Use this genre to build a shelter that is protective.
Horror
- Will help you be on alert and create natural alarm systems for your shelter.
Paranormal
- So you can communicate with with spirits and other entities to maintain peace in the shelter.
Create the walls
Create a series ladder for the walls by reading books in a series. You need 8 series book in order (which can include multiple of the same series but doesn't have to) to create each wall. Each series book must be a whole number for the wall.
You are creating up to 3 walls.
You can add in one .5 book (that meet the usual challenge requirements in terms of page count) per wall for windows. The window has to be in the run of the series numbers (you couldn't have 3.5 window in a wall made up of series #5 - #13). Windows have to be within the range of your wall, so if your wall is #2-9 then the window can't be either #1.5 or #9.5.
Example:
Wall 1:
A Court of Thorns and Roses book 1
All the Broken Places book 2
Mockingjay book 3
Tyrant's Throne book 4
High Five book 5
The Hanging Tree book 6
Last Scene Alive book 7
Rattle His Bones book 8
wall is complete
We decide to also add in A Court of Frost and Starlight (book 3.5) as a window.
Now for the door
Steal shelter books from other teams to make your door.
(This means reading a book another team has already read for their 'shelter' category.)
Get creative about how their book would be a door.
Is it a brown cover and therefore you are using it for your wooden door?
Does it have a door on the cover? That's obvious and not so creative, but, hey it works.
Does it have a character who is a builder? Great - get them to build your door!
You will need 4 books to complete your door.
◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 5 points. Each book can be used for one task only.
◈ Books for tasks can be finished in any order. No need to complete each part in order to get the points.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the Book Games challenge (May 15).
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on July 1st 9am UTC
and before July 15th 9am UTC.
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books from what you are claiming for your main tasks.
◈ The usual book length rules apply.
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points.

◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the Book Games challenge (May 15).
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on July 1st 9am UTC
and before July 15th 9am UTC.
So unless you're finishing a book for the Battle, it might be a good idea to hold off finishing books - particularly series books - until Monday.

14 MPGs, up to 3 books each
Walls (up to 3): min 24 books for walls + 3 windows
a series number sequence 1-8, with optional windows
Door (1): 4 books
4 'stolen' shelter material books - books other teams have read for the MPG task - that can't creatively used to represent a door.
I think that's actually slightly fewer books than the last Mini.

At least I won't have to look for more books set in Crete, lol.

Ugh. I was wrong. The first Mini maxed out at 70 books. This one maxes out at 73.

At least I won't have to look for more books set in Crete, lol."
no more crete or idaho lol

I was thinking about that, too.
Thank goodness many books will work for more than one MPG.
I think the series sequences will be harder to complete. I actually have several series books for which I need to read books 9 and 10, which is a bummer, lol.

Re: Nonfiction
Sadly, it's not just any NF, but jas to be "specifically focused on survival in extreme conditions, wilderness survival, or emotional and psychological resilience."
I've definitely have one for this, possible two. Does this topic appeal to anyone else?

I just realized I read the series sequence incorrectly. It doesn't have to be 1-8 - it can be 10 - 17, etc.

Hey i just finished my cleaning so im with you 🤣

Truthfully, I could probably read three for this one, if need be. My TBR is very full.....

overachiever here lol but honestly i feel like i am planning better with this game than others lol

lets hold this for like 10 days before we need to finish?

(hope that makes sense)

(hope that makes sense)"
In the sense that we don't have to search through the shelves, yes!
At least with an MPG requirement, it's fairly straightforward. Except for the qualifier on the NF books, a book either does or doesn't work - no debate.

I just got to Wisconsin - my Mom is having surgery on her hand and I’m up to help her for a week or so. Good news is that means a lot of reading time (because she’s not able to do much and is also a reader).

Sending her a speedy recovery :)

Yea it makes it easier

I just got to Wisconsi..."
My mom had surgery for a broken wrist a few years ago, and help was certainly required.
I hope the surgery and healing go well. How wonderful that you are able to be with her! And how nice that you're both readers. My mom is, too.

Dale Can you please add Bailey and the Bad Boy and Making the King to your Book Games shelf?
Tara Can you please add Summers at the Saint to your shelf?
Raquel Can you add your books for this round so far to the Spreadsheet or let us know if you need some help?
Donna Can you add Bleeding Violet to your shelf?

Dale Can you pl..."
Done :)

Some of these are part of a series reread - others, I'm just behind, lol. Obviously, I will not be reading them all. I am going to focus on series books and NF.
I also have a lot of early in the series books not listed, which I think are a bit easier. Would the team be open to two groups of 7 being books 1-8 and the other 9-16? Or 6-13? Something like that?

**hangs head in shame**

Oh sure - make me feel worse, lol. I don't know what I did!!!
Wait - Snowball got hacked? How did I miss that???

Oh no, Donna - that's terrible! I honestly don't know how you keep up with everything even without hacking....or fumble fingered idiots....

I just realized I read the series sequence incorrectly. It doesn't have to be 1-8 - it can be 10 - 17, etc.

ETA: Can y'all tell I'm not working today?"
I think this will work perfectly because I'm in the middle of a couple of book series. So we can do Books 3-10.

Well, at least I know that wasn't me. :)

Um, it's already on my shelf..."
🤦♀️ I’m blind, sorry about that 🤦♀️

Hmm… that’s interesting. It’s fine to add them without links for now and we can clean up the links later. I am just on my phone.., but will see if I have the same issue when I get a proper laptop out.
Please no spreadsheet sabotage! Don’t even look at the spreadsheet with suspicion, it might go rogue 😁

I can do it :) add the links:)

I can do clean up too:)

@Dale I'll give Karolyn a chence to take a look before I cause more problems, lol.
