Dale | 377 comments I also suggest that we make a list of names for who wanta to read for the battle so it can be easier Captial went, book 1 dale, captial went, book 2 Sixty, captial, book 3 Karolyn..

So that way we can go faster

Karolyn | 1041 comments Grrrr… will fix that, thanks.

Are we waiting for the captail now?
Or does my book suggestion work?

message 904: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments I believe it is their turn. They went first. Then Karolyn sent back One by One for battle 1 (reader Karolyn)

message 905: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments I can read both One by One, if that's allowable. There's one by Freida McFadden and another by Ruth Ware.

One by One by Freida McFadden One by One by Ruth Ware

Laura | 5524 comments In keeping with the established theme, for the second shot of the Battle the Capitol will be reading One by One.

I'm not sure how many rounds we can keep it up. I'm still waiting for more of my team to respond. I don't think they were ready for the Battle prep to start yet.

message 907: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Dale - It’s back to their turn. The official spreadsheet has the books we’ve selected and our placeholders for the battle so far. And I have a yellow legal pad list of who’s volunteering if we keep sending the same title back and forth.

Once Tara is around and can unlock the Round 3 tab on our planning file, I’ll add the battle books there as well.

message 908: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments This is who volunteered if we keep getting “one”. I moved Donna to the second slot since they didn’t read for the last battle.
1. Karolyn
2. Donna
3. Jhmingos
4. Sixty
5. Dale
6. Jhmingos (X2)

message 909: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments I did read for the last battle.

Truitt_T | 801 comments Greetings, everyone!

I'll definitely finish The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival today as planned.

I can't say I was all that interested in any of the ONE options, so I thought I'd make a list:

One by One by Freida McFadden
One by One by Ruth Ware
One Plus One by Jojo Moyes
One Kiss Alone by Nichole Van
One Night Alone by Sarah Havan
One Stands Alone by Lee Everett
One Is One and All Alone by Anthea Fraser
One Kills Alone by David Sparkes
One Man Rides Alone by Ketan Joshi
One Crow Alone by S.D. Crockett

It turns out One Night Alone is KU, MM, and just over 100 pages. It's not very highly rated, but I think I can manage.

I'm going to pop over to The Capitol and share my list. I think it would be really fun to keep the ONE thing going....

Karolyn | 1041 comments I’m sending over our next one now (Donna). Missed Laura’s post last night and am slowly catching up this morning.

Karolyn | 1041 comments Sunday Funday Last Day Update

We have just over 17 hours in Round 2 and the mini. I’d love to have everything in the spreadsheet by 10 pm or so Central time. If you’re finishing for the mini and will need more time than that - let us know.

I think we’re good for the mini - Dale, Tru, and Tara should have those finished today.

Battle
Thanks for the expanded list Tru! We’ll keep this “one” thing going as long as we can

Round 3
The Round 3 tab is open for your planning pleasure. I’ve blocked the first 10 slots for our battle books.

Pretty please let us know in the thread when you make (or if you’ve already made) your last update for Round 2. It helps us know if we need to reach out to anybody.

Laura | 5524 comments Just stopping in from the Capitol to fire our next shot in the battle

We'll be reading (drum roll, please!) One by One. I bet you're all totally shocked to see that. :)

message 920: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments @Karolyn - in your posts in our (Capitol) thread, or on your spreadsheet, you might want to specify which One By One each read is going to be. I don't know if we can substitute later with a same title/different book, but I do know that any books not selected before the Battle starts don't count. I would hate for any kind of technicality to mess us up.

message 921: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments @laura - thanks and I will add that. I’m on my phone right now, but will be back in front of a computer late afternoon.

All - no surprise what I’ll send back…

What a great list! If we do keep the ONE theme going, I also have books that either start or end with "one". If we look into making it more back-and-forth, I can volunteer another one.

message 923: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Donna Which author’s One by One do you plan to read.

This is who I have lined up if we keep the “one” chain going:
4. Sixty
5. Dale
6. Jhmingos (McFadden)

Sixty and Dale - can you confirm which you’d plan to read?

message 929: by Laura (last edited Jul 14, 2024 10:39AM) (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Guys, I made a mistake in my post above. There is a third One By One that doesn't show up until far down the search. That is the one we will be reading for my post above. And I think it's our turn now, but my team is moving slowly this weekend. I think a bunch of them didn't realize the battle planning started now. I'll post our pick in bit, when I know who will be reading what.

One by One

This is not a selection post to move us along. This is just a correction post!

Er...I didn't think articles could be ignored for the Battle. If we can, there are quite a few more options.....

message 935: by Karolyn (new)

I’ll send our next one over.

The struggle for survival in the arena is a never ending cycle. Sometimes a tribute will luck into a boon but they are just as likely to be a victim of sabotage.

The Randomizer was let loose on all of the teams' resource supply piles. The Arena Masters are not heartless, the news isn't all bad. But the Arena is just a wee bit harder as we get closer to crowning a Champion.

In Round 2, 1 pile receives a boon (15% page point increase), 1 is left alone, and 2 are the subject of sabotage (10% or 15% page point decrease). Impacts to resource supply piles are team specific.

Your team's randomizer results

Weapons: 15% increase
Shelter: 10% decrease
Food: 15% decrease (protected, no change)
Defense: Left Alone

You're welcome, Tara. I needed to read that book for another challenge, and while the book is KU, I had a loan of the audio that was about to expire.

Ten years ago, I never listened to audiobooks. Now, I'm rarely reading a book for which I haven't figured out some way to get the audio, too. I bounce back and forth between them.

Is this true for anyone else?
