Truitt_T | 801 comments Great work as always, Karolyn!

I was wondering, though, if we could have something more for Banking Books. I don't know if we'd want a Book Bank under another tab with each possible task listed in individual columns, or a simpler solution such as additional columns in Round Three tab - one for usable letters, and then one for each District.

Also, fo we want to discuss when we list books for the Mini? As time is of the essence, do we list only when we finish a book?

Thanks for this and all your hard work!

Such good questions!

Let me play around with a banked book tab. It would probably make Tara and my life easier. I’ll try to get something together tonight or tomorrow and y’all can help tweak it.

I’d recommend “claiming” a spot if you’re specificity reading that book for that task (will be the case for some of the District tasks). For the spell outs, it would be fine to claim them as you finish or are almost finished. And we can use the chat to work through timing. Best not to claim too far in advance - which will be hard to do anyway since we only have one spell out and one district to work on at a time.

Thanks, Karolyn - that sounds great! We are so lucky to have a spreadsheet wiz as a Captain. :)

message 1104: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments FYI, I've claimed a couple of spots but they'll be completed soon after the mini starts. I've been holding off on finishing some books because they fit a task that's kind of tricky (livestock plot, livestock cover, and #10 in a series).

It routinely gets into the 100's here, so I just stay inside with the blinds closed all summer like a goblin.

Tara Peace | 240 comments Quick check in! Just got done camping in Zion and Bryce Canyon and made it to Vegas as our halfway point to home g(111 here y’all 🥵)

When I’m at my computer tomorrow I’ll switch everything over to the main spreadsheet! My daughter is in summer camp next week and it’s my last week off before heading back to school so lots of reading will be happening.

As for Erin and those supply drops, I’ll send some protection over to you tomorrow!

111! That sounds awful! Hopefully, you've made it to cooler weather by now. It's been 90s here and I've been hiding inside in the a/c.

Truitt_T | 801 comments I have a question about the Mini and loggin books.

If I put, for example, AH13 in the Round 3 Mini Ref column, (with completion date, etc.) it should automatically add it to the correct row in the Mini, right?

If that's the case, I'm doing something wrong....help, please!

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments I haven't gotten much reading done lately either, Devann. I am stuck in planning mode. I am reading a little of one of the BOM books each night but I have a team challenge to have ready for September. I am pushing to get everything done.

Joanna Jones (joannajones) | 69 comments Hi Captains - I finished a BOM from earlier in the year and added it to the list. I'm not sure how these count, but I figure you'll know how to allocate points if they differ from the other BOMs. I just wanted to give you a heads-up. 😊

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments The dates in the spreadsheet for the BOM "The Book that Wouldn't Burn" doesn't match the dates on the discussion itself.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

It says it started July 15th on the thread... the spreadsheet says started July 2nd. I can still participate in this right? I mean I can try to rush it and finish it today but I really don't want to.

message 1121: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments I promise I’ll get to a banked book tab going. Really. Tomorrow. 😬😬😬

We’re off to a good start with the mini. For the spell out, it is really helpful if you can note why the book fits the letter. Like… “S - ALN or J - Title, ect). It really helps with checking.

And HAPPY FRIDAY!!! It’s slightly less hot today and I’m hoping for a nice, quiet weekend. Anyone have fun weekend plans?

message 1125: by Tara (new)

Tara Peace | 240 comments Also - looking at our resources - we're doing great on Food (1601) but lacking in all other areas. Defense = 978, Shelter = 1047 and Weapons = 1234. So if you're thinking of resources, try to go the route of the other 3 for a bit!

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments How are we listing books that don't fit the current mini options BUT will fit other wheels? Or any of the current options it fits are taken. I don't see a banked book option/column.

Tara Peace | 240 comments Donna wrote: "How are we listing books that don't fit the current mini options BUT will fit other wheels? Or any of the current options it fits are taken. I don't see a banked book option/column."

I created a banked books tab with dropdowns for how it would fit each district. Let me know if this works/if I missed anything!

message 1132: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments Thanks, Tara! That's just what we needed. :)

I do have two ideas, though.

Could/should we add a column for letters? Title is obvious, but author and series aren't.

Also, would it be ok if we made a not in the final column if there's something particularly tricky that we might want to save the book for? I'm about to add a book that's #14 in a series, which might be difficult to come by if we get The Capitol later in the Round. It's just a thought.

message 1133: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Hey all! I’m hoping to finish my book for the mini tonight. Tomorrow at the latest. If someone finishes a book that works for that task and wants to “bump” me, I’m completely fine with that.

Just post here so we can get another spin 😁

Sixty (sixtyone) | 311 comments So, funny story about Funny Story. I saw there was an audiobook version on youtube, so I figured I would check it out. But it turns out it's not the real audiobook, it's an AI reading it. It's not the worst thing I've listened to, BUT every so often it has a brief demon voice for a few words and that has been keeping me on my toes, haha.

I'm just going to use an audible credit for it now.

Truitt_T | 801 comments Thanks, Tara!

And speaking of Banked Books, I noticed, Lizzie, that you have a Banked Book that is series starts with V. You you and the Captains approve, we could use your book for the V in the current Spell-Out and move my V book to one of the remaining Rs.

I should finish another R book today.

What do you all think?

message 1139: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Jones (joannajones) | 69 comments For the spellout, can we use main characters' first names? The The Midnight Feast has E, B, F, and O for the four main characters (Eddie, Bella, Francesca, and Owen). I should be able to finish this today.

Sadly, no.

From the Mini description:

Spell outs can use the first letter of the title or series title (ignore or use THE, A or AN as you prefer), the first letter of the author, narrator* or translator* first or last names. For this version NO character names are permitted.
* these can only be used if the edition read was audio or translated

Sometimes a book is just not what you want to read at a particular moment - I get that. I am more and more willing to dnf a book, although I do like that particular one. :)

District 13 was in charge of nuclear weaponry

orange text on cover

author first & last initials in NUCLEAR WEAPONRY

Ugh! I was hoping we'd miss this one.

Unless someone has a book with a nuclear power facility or bomb on the cover, we might be able to get away with a pencil. District 13 was known for graphite mining, even though that was really just a cover for the nuclear work.

Even BOMB in title isn't all that easy.
