You can link to your posts in the thread and I add to the spreadsheet where there is a BOM tab, so you can link there too. Up to you!

We do have to keep an eye on each other though for random sneakiness...

Jhmingos | 704 comments Do you think there will be any buddy read or some mini tasks for The Hunger Games sequels? I want to read the prequel but am worried I should save it in case we get extra points for reading the series.

I'm wrapping up my school year (librarian at an independent school) and hoping it will open up my reading. But I have a 7 year old who I'm sure is going to tell approximately 8000 times (a day) that they're bored.

I should also note I will be camping mid-June and without computer!

Truitt_T | 801 comments Dale wrote: "does any of your guys do a summer reading program?"

My library system has a summer reading program, that, while primiarily intended for kids/students, also welcomes adults. They use Beanstalk, if you've ever run across it.

I participate in a low key way, only submitting books I've read that I sourced through the library. They're always ;ooking to improve participation numbers.

Do you participate in a program, Dale?

message 122: by Angela (new)

Angela | 114 comments My library also has the Beanstalk reading program, but I don't participate in it. I tried to get into it a couple of years ago, but I kept forgetting to record the books I read.

message 123: by Tara (new)

Tara Peace | 240 comments We're implementing Beanstack at our school, but literally just rolled it out this spring, so we'll really ramp up in the fall. We have a summer reading list, but it's mostly the teachers.

As for my daughter, I'm going to get her going on the one at the public library which is just a couple of blocks away from us! My husband/her dad isn't a reader, but I obviously am. Hope she takes after me!

I used to be heavily into participating in the adult summer and winter reading programs my library would run but the end of 2023 and so far this year have not been overly kind to my reading time. As evidenced by how I've only just finished my first book for the challenge. I'm hoping to get at least one more read by Monday since Memorial Day is last day off before the final 16 days of school.

Truitt_T | 801 comments Good day, all!

I don't know if everyone is aware of the NBRC Backroom. You have to be 18+ to join the group, becasue discussions there are about books that are on the risque or racy side of the reading spectrum.

There's going to be an extra June BOM over in the Backroom group - it'll run just like a main group BOM, with points for joining the discussion and writing Discussion Questions - but the material may be very different, lol. You also don't get to count this BOM toward extra entries.

So join the group, and then vote on the tie-breaker for the June winner: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2.... After the winners is chosen, we can volunteer ourselves as Tributes to write the DQs and earn points!

Speaking of DQs, thanks again to Alisha for getting picked for DQs for The Malevolent Seven - those 40 points (plus 20 for participation) are great!

The Poll is also up for the main NBRC group BOMs for July - you can find the poll here. If someone from District 2 had nominated a book, I'd say to vote for it - the nominator of the winning BOM automatically gets one of the DQ spots. If I missed that we have a nominator in the District, please speak up!

Truitt_T | 801 comments For the upcoming Mini, CORNUCOPIA:

Here's a GR list of authors with a diacritic in name:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

If anyone is going to read Salt & Broom for the BOM, it works for Hidden Word: broom

The upcoming BOM for Starling House works for Author Initials in HERACLES.

Remember, now that the Games have begun, it's that date that you finish a book that matters, not the start date. I've got one more book I have to finish in May, but I'm going to try not to finish any others until June....

I've got several books for Set in Peru, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela, and a few for Crete.

What has everyone else got lined up?

I'll read Starling House and I'll likely read one of Gabriel García Márquez's novels. Possibly Of Love and Other Demons since it takes place in Columbia. Does that mean it can count for two categories on the mini-challenge?

I've got several lined up - I'll finish up [book:It Waits in the Forest|196849307] before the end of the month and probably one other and then look towards filling up some of those mini challenge ones The Girl from the Grand Hotel, Until August are the 2 definitely at the ready!

Jhmingos | 704 comments So can ONE book count for several tasks in the mini? Love in the Time of Cholera is set in Colombia and it's by Gabriel García Márquez. Should work for big points if it's allowed.

If I understand Tara's post above, it's one book, one task.

@Tara, Ivelisse, and Karolyn - I'm guessing we should list additional tasks for which our books are good? I'm thinking extras wouldn't be amiss, with the possibility of Supply Drops.....

Tara Peace | 240 comments Jhmingos wrote: "So can ONE book count for several tasks in the mini? Love in the Time of Cholera is set in Colombia and it's by Gabriel García Márquez. Should work for big points if it's allowed."

Only 1 task per book and clarification for farms: it has to be a working farm where produce/livestock are being grown/raised to sell. Does not work for like a homestead. Does that make sense?

Not sure if the other captains have takeaways from captain's chat, but those were the main ones I got!

Yes, and that way we can move around as needed - there is a mini reference column on round 1 tab and I've a second one!

This is what the mods stated in the captain's chat: "2. intention is for it to be farming for commercial / third-parties, not homesteading etc."

message 146: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Jones (joannajones) | 69 comments Does anyone know the dates for the rounds? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Noted that one book can only count towards one mini-task. I'll keep you posted on how Of Love and Other Demons is. It's only 160 pages, so could be an easy 5 points for others, assuming multiple people can read the same book for the task?

It's been ages since I've read it, but he is one of my favorite authors! I'm curious to hear if y'all like it! That being said, some of his writing is considered problematic currently 😳
