Truitt_T | 801 comments The Backroom BOM is The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by K.J. Charles. It's a good book I'm happy to recommend, but, unfortunately, I'm within the 6 month reread window.

The Backroom BOM's ususally get fewer DQ volunteers, so it might be a nice way to pick up 40 points, if anyone is interested.

I know that books for the Mini also have to work for a Resource, but do we also get resource points for Mini books?

I'm asking because I'm closing out the month with two longer books I can't finish until June (another challenge, lol) and I'd hate to lose the stubstantial page points if we don't really need them for the Mini.

And a related question - do we log books both on the Mini tab and the Round 1 tab?

I hope these question make sense, lol.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Hello, District 2!

I feel like most of us are procrastinating on this supply drop. I am trying to take some initiative (finally) in spurts on it.

Do you have any preferences for supply drop needs?

For our request if you gift us any this round, we would love books that could be used for defense/protection of our supplies.

Until now time -- odds in all our favor and all that :)

My assumption is that like in other challenges, it works for both the resource and the mini for points, which would mean logging on both resource and mini tab (why there is a mini reference column on Round 1)? But I will let the other captains/teammates weigh in.

As for the books, if I'm not mistaken, Round 1 goes to June 15, so you're good to finish in June and those points will still count for Round 1 (did I understand that correctly?)

Hopefully I answered your questions!

I think our idea was to get some books from y'all, hopefully, for the mini in areas we may be lacking. But we're still strategizing!

We can absolutely send some over for you for defense/weapons!

And lastly, this may be a silly question, but whatever we send to you we also get those points, or we give those points to you?

I'm still v confused on a lot of this but trying to figure it out after a night of little sleep while my husband had an emergency appendectomy!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I am pretty sure you get to keep the page points - I think you do not get to use for resources or mini if you send a book over. I am still trying to figure it out myself but almost positive you get to keep the page points regardless

message 157: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments Oh Tara - I'm so sorry to hear about your husband! I hope he's recovering as comfortably as possible, and that you aren't going too crazy with the stress and lack of sleep. My thoughts are with you both.

As for the books, I think I've got it, but please forgive any mistakes.

Ugh. I hadn't realized quite how many books I'd committed to for the first part of June. I've taken up quite a few spots for the Mini, but if anyone needs one of the spots, you can bump me.

After I knock out the things I've got to read (I feel really guilty if I don't read my libby loans) I'll focus on some of the trickier tasks.

message 158: by Truitt_T (last edited May 31, 2024 10:01AM) (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments For the Idaho task:

If you're an MM Romance reader (and I know a few of us are) there's a multi-author series set in northern Idaho - Camp Bay Christmas. Yes, they're Christmas stories, but they appear to be short and easy.

If there are any Idaho spots left by the time I finish my early June backlog of books, I'll tackle one or two.

message 159: by Jhmingos (last edited May 31, 2024 12:40PM) (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments Same here, I claimed a lot of spots on the mini-task. Feel free to let me know and I'm sure I can move some books around. I get gung ho about finding books for tasks. I also have some books in my TBR that are set in Idaho if we need them.

Karolyn | 1041 comments Hey all! I need to apologize for being quiet this past week. I got sick and then gave it to my husband (who is not a pleasant human when he’s sick :) ). But am back to normal and almost caught up.

I’m excited about the mini and will try to get replies to some of the questions in the thread tonight or tomorrow. I’m also going to play a bit with the spreadsheet so that (hopefully) we don’t have to double enter the mini books on both tabs.

And any great thoughts on the mini? I see that Erin shared what they are looking for. The part I am still trying to figure out is when we need to do these drops by and if it’s better to drop them sooner or towards the end of the round. The joy of a new game is none of us have done this before!!

Dale wrote: "I think the task that will be hard is the orange cover, books in crete and the find all the letters to the word one"

Agreed, but I've got suggestions for CORNUPIA.

MM Romance:
The Courtship of Julian St. Albans
The Apprenticeship of Julian St. Albans
The Tribulations of Ross Young, Supernat PA: The Complete Works
The Scientist and the Supermodel

Non-MM, also KU:
The Kaiju Preservation Society
The Mad Sculptor: The Maniac, the Model, and the Murder That Shook the Nation

We'll get this done!

Butterfly Burning by Yvonne Vera
This definitely works per Tineye.

I have some orange books that I think will work, but I confess I'm more focused on the higher point tasks for now, at least.

Tara Peace | 240 comments Jhmingos - set in rural China is not going to work - it has to be a farm that is raising produce/livestock to sell it commercially. Will it work for anything else in the mini?

message 173: by Jhmingos (new)

Sounds good - there was a lot of chatter on the captain's thread about it - so we need to be as specific as possible! Thank you!

Can you also put page number for abundance in A Love Song for Ricki Wilde - I feel like they're being a bit picky about the mini so want to cover our bases!

Hello, all!

We are trying to finalize supply book plans - do you want books for the mini, or books for protecting your resources, or books for resources? It would depend on what you are looking for on us sending them, so just let me know here in your thread or pop in on our thread over there with District 13, thank you!

If you told me and I missed it, so sorry!

Friends - what do we want from District 13 for supply drops?

Erin - you want defense/weapons correct?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Correct, we are wanting to defend our resources, so books used for defense, we can make work. It's new to me as well so trying to figure it out. We should have it easier future rounds! :)

We’re a little light on food and weapons vs the other categories. So maybe food?? We gotta eat, right?

Pretty please make sure you’ve updated your finished book and have them added to your challenge shelf. It’s a huge help for us 😀

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Truitt_T wrote: "Not to throw a spanner in the works, but couldn't we use some books for the Mini?"

That is one of three options for supply drops

With the mini, you would need to request early and see if we have them available. Probably would not be able to send those out right away and cannot guarantee three fully for the harder ones as we don't have those finished ourselves --- BUT I think you can mix and match too.

Just let me know this week so we can get what we can done.

message 197: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments Supply drops for the mini could be helpful. I have books that will work for some of the tricky tasks like set in Idaho, orange cover, set Peru, Colombia, or Venezula, etc., but I haven't found ones that are set in Crete and have a horn on the cover.

message 198: by Dale (new)

Dale | 377 comments i found one horn book but i agree with the hard locations

message 199: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments I've several for Idaho, Peru/Colombia/Venzuela, and CORNUPIA - and even a few for Crete. The trouble is I've got to get through several other books first before I can move on to books I haven't already added to the SS. Poor planning on my part. ):

The Horn task, though, is proving very tricky.

I have no idea what we should do with this supply drop....
