Truitt_T | 801 comments Given that our Captains only have an hour after the Round ends to get everything finalized, I'm thinking we need to finish our Mini books as early as possible - for those of us in the U.S., late Friday night?

We have 17 books to finish over three days (and a few hours):

Orange Cover:
Karolyn - Infectious Generosity
Joanna - The Wolf Den

Horn on Cover
Sixty - Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Dale - Swipe Right for Monsters

Set in Crete
Tara - Ariadne
*****the only task unclaimed*****

Set in Idaho
Jhmingos - The Sheep Queen
Tru - Stolen Christmas
Dale - Mountain Home

Diacritic
Angela - Dust Child
Dale - Finding Mr. Claus

Takes Place on a Farm
Karolyn - Pray For Silence

CORNUPIA
Angela - Recipe for Persuasion
Sixty - The Kaiju Preservation Society
Jhmingos - Pucking Around

Three Food Items on Cover
Karolyn - In the Shadow of Slavery

Set in Peru, etc.
Jhmingos - Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter

With only a little over three days left, does anyone need to drop a book while there's still time for someone else to cover the task? And does anyone want to read a book for Crete?

I hadn't even thought of that! It's destiny!

Tara Peace | 240 comments You guys are incredible! I'm signing off for the trip now, but love what I'm seeing so far. I have pre-put in Ariadne (I'll finish by 13 at latest) but we're on track to finish in great time. If I finish anything else before 6/15, I'll put it here and hopefully someone can add to the sheet for me! See y'all in a week!

Im finishing finding mr claus right now :)

message 356: by Angela (new)

Angela | 114 comments I will be able to finish both of the books listed above in time. I am half way finished with Dust Child and will be starting Recipe for Persuasion tomorrow.

message 357: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments The Capitol here. We've got 2 options for you guys. If you go with Ars Historica, we will be reading I Can Explain. If you go with Arsenic in the Azaleas we will be reading Easterleigh Hall. It's up to you what you want play off of. Once you decide, please update your spreadsheet Battle Tab so we can update ours as well.

message 358: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments Donna Can you please add The Pale Princess to your Book Games Shelf?

And last but not least, if you haven't checked in on the thread lately, can you pop in and let us know you're doing OK? Particularly Ive, Donna, Alisha, and Devann. It's fine if you prefer to lurk, we just want to know you're around and doing alright :)

Sorry, there are so many messages going through here and I thought I saw them all but I missed this one. I saw the ones about the book battles but somehow missed this one. I added my book to the shelf. I am also here. I read the messages but I don't say much. I am around and reading.

message 359: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments I think there’s only one way we should go with Laura’s options - we want ALL as our three letters.

I’ll check when I’m home, but I’m fairly certain I have half a dozen books that would work - we’ll have to see about ending letters.

What does everyone think? You’re ok reading Azaleas, Dale?

Laura | 5524 comments I saw that your captain is on a trip, so I wanted to remind you not to start reading until Week 2 of Round 2. That’s the Battle Week.

message 363: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Alrighty, we officially have Arsenic in the Azaleas for round 1 of the battle with Dale reading and I'll pop over and let the Capitol know.

REMEMBER THAT WE HAVE TO READ THE BATTLE BOOKS (START AND FINISH) THE SECOND WEEK OF ROUND 2.

We'll get a battle countdown created and share it with everyone to help us out.

Thanks Laura! We were on the same page. I am the co-cap that poor District 2 is stuck with till Tara is back. I'll pop over and say hello to your team in a moment :)

message 365: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments @Laura

Reminders are always appreciated! Sadly, I’ve already begun a book with the first word ALL - how unlucky is that, lol?

I know I’ve got more, though, and I imagine when we hear from more teammates we’ll have plenty of options.

Finding a book beginning with AIN would be tough…..

Dale | 377 comments I agree with Truitt :)
You are doing a fab job

message 368: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments Hmmm…did we ever learn if subtitles are included? I may have the perfect book if they are.

message 369: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments This announcement from the The Capitol seems a bit anticlimactic now, but we will, indeed, be reading Easterleigh Hall for our first shot in the Battle Arena. Your turn!

message 370: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Still no answer in the Captain’s chat on subtitles. I’ll let you all know when I see something.

And… the battle planning ball is back in our court! Starting with “ALL” seems like it should be doable.

message 373: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments I’d been thinking of All Boys Aren’t Blue - but the last three letters are lousy if we can’t use the subtitle.

message 374: by Dale (last edited Jun 14, 2024 08:33AM) (new)

Dale | 377 comments I dont know of those both would be easy to find books for.

message 375: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments The subtitle ends in STO - stop, story, stocking….
LUE would be cruel….and NGS, I suspect.

message 376: by Dale (new)

Any volunteers for one (or more if we want a few options) of these three books?

message 380: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments All Around town sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind reading that one.

message 381: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Great Donna! I’ll get it on the spreadsheet and let the Capital know 😀

message 382: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Alright… now we wait, and keep reading 😀

I should update on my books as well. I’ll have Pray for Silence done tonight and should have Infectious Generosity tomorrow (it’s my car audiobook).

I’m 95% sure I’ll have In The Shadow of Slavery done. It’s a book that needs focused attention, I can’t work on spreadsheets at the same time 😂 So if someone wants to grab a book with 3 food items on cover and bump mine… I would not be sad. And if we need me to get it done, it will be done!!

Truitt_T | 801 comments I'm going to go ahead and take the remaining Crete book. It seems my destiny to read about Crete....

I'm not adding a book title yet, though. I'm trying to decide which one to try.

message 384: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments When exactly are we supposed to read these battle books? I don't want to start it before I am supposed to.

If it's Captive in Crete: The First Jet Wilson Cozy Mystery, it wasn't very good.

It'll probably be tomorrow before we have anything for you. Good thing they gave us a week (plus an early start!). Feel free to stalk our thread and see what we're considering. We can't promise to read what you prefer, but we can try.

By the way, do you have any idea how many books there are titled Owned By The ...? Mafia Boss, Bratva, Irish Mob, Billionaire, etc!

Laura, I've already read three Crete books - one was a generous 3 stars, but I couldn't bring myself to give the other two more than 2 stars.

Thankfully, book number four is not the one you mentioned. I was able to get Kidnap in Crete: The True Story of the Abduction of a Nazi General via libby. I'd come across the story of the General's kidnapping and thought it sounded interesting. So far, so good!

In response to All Around the Town, we will be reading Own the Wind. I see many searches for books starting with In in your future!
