Even though Sam is sidelined for security purposes because of the rioting but responds to the call about a dead body in a dumpster. It turns out to be Willie Vasquez, the baseball centerfielder who cost the team the championship. Were you surprised or was this inevitable? Was Sam out of line in responding to the call from dispatch?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2971 comments It was kind of the whole point of the book, so yeah, it was inevitable. As inevitable as it was it was really sad, and I really enjoyed the twisted route to what really happened to him.

Sam was out of line, but hey, it's Sam she lives to be out of line. She disobeyed a direct order.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I expected it in this story, but it is a sad commentary on life today.

I expected Sam to go out in the field at the first opportunity. She thinks she can do whatever she wants. In real life, disciplinary actions would be required.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Yes, I wasn't surprised as its the premise of the book.

Sam's insubordination is one of the most irritating aspects of this series. It annoys me that she gets away with this behavior with barely a slap on the wrist.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I agree with all of you. Not surprised that Sam found a way to get out on the streets.
