Oh yeah I actually ended up reading this! I love a good pandemic book and I think this delivered. (view spoiler)[ So does the ending mean the virus was a natural release? A proto-flu virus I guess? The reveal of MC's past was well done as well. Releasing little bits of info at a time... And I felt so sorry for his kids losing their mom and them trying to survive afterwards. I hate that the son had to kill someone, but I'm so glad he had that option. My blood was boiling during the attempted rape scene. 😡 (hide spoiler)]
I read this right around the same time and never came back to comment--totally agree, it was a good pandemic book that delivered. (view spoiler)[Definitely agree on how the past reveals worked--the little tidbits, and increasing possibility that it was all his fault...
OMG That attempted rape scene!! The worst of humanity right there. There was a second when he said "It's a little girl!" that I thought they'd maybe take the good road and help, but no. Thank goodness the boy had a gun, and I agree, it sucks he had to do that but thank goodness he could.
I was really surprised that the father didn't think to check that his kids might have tried to go to his sister-in-law's place. Like, checking all the relatives should be first on the list, right? The kids trying to figure out how to drive was funny though. A needed funny after that horrid scene.
I though this book was well put together--with bits of the wider world but also the focus on a specific family and a few specific other people...
As for the ending... I think it's all up in the air still... (hide spoiler)]
Happy Reading!
