Reagan | 34 comments Do you have any recommendations for questions to ask beta readers when reading your book? Preferably more general questions, ones that can be used for any story.

Katy (bookhoundediting) | 4 comments Here are some ideas to get you started:

>Did the story drag at any point or were there any scenes that seemed unnecessary?

>Everyone has pet words or phrases that they tend to overuse, so were there any words or phrases that seemed repetitive?

>Was it difficult to tell which character was speaking? Were there too few (or too many) dialogue tags?

>Were there any plot points that were too easy to predict or too cliché?

>Was there too much backstory introduced too early?

>Was there enough (or too much) description? (Particularly using senses other than sight and hearing, like taste, touch, and smell)

And of course make sure they flag anything that just doesn't make sense to them.

Ruqayyah | 951 comments I think those are great questions.

Also, ask for a general opinion of the book and a reason for it.
Something to improve and something they really liked too
