Aussie author, dark academia fantasy with 4.63 rating!

All are welcome to join JoAnne and I in a Buddy Read! I started yesterday and already finding it addictive.

I won't be starting for a week or two-I am on the wait list and number one, but the book is not due back until the 15th.

I have been better reading than at updating. I've finished through Part 1.

Overall, I like Vis. He is a bit of a "chosen one" with lots of secrets but of course, the right adult sees through to the diamond in the rough and trains him up. I'm a fan of the trope so I'm good. Islington writes well and there is plenty going on to stay engaged.

I kind of get the whole Will system and I'm not sure I would want to be part of that system either. It isn't too clear how people qualify for a status or if movement between classes is possible. I don't get the rebel magic at all though I think the Hierarchy also doesn't understand. The taking of blood makes me anxious.

There are so many plots within plots. The Aquius (I can't remember spellings) rebel group trying to capitalize on Vis and make demands but also giving guilt to all within the system. The mystery around U's brother's death and the downfall of his classmates and V seems like such an unassuming villain. Then what is Vis' plan for himself?

I like the training part and I am excited for Vis to finally make it to the academy. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished Part 2 and the story is getting addictive. Will add more later.
