Trisha | 391 comments Vicki, did we still want to buddy read one of these for this week's tasks?

Family Family by Laurie Frankel here
32. - read a book written by a woman
41. - read a book from your own personal TBR list

and

The Return of Ellie Black by Emiko Jean
31. - read a book that is tagged 'Mystery
32. - read a book written by a woman
38. - read a book that has more than one cover
41. - read a book from your own personal TBR list

These all feel like pretty low point tasks but, until we read them, I don't know if they work for any of the others.

what do you think?

I just looked at stuff, and apparently two teams had missing members.
We likely will not get Week 1 points till Tuesday.

Yes! I started it on our way home from Utah and I'm almost halfway done with it. I've commented in CC. Do we need to have a BR thread in this group for it to count?

message 109: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments Trisha, for Family Family by Laurie Frankel , based on my reading so far these are the ones I found that would work:

27. MC uses the internet
32. - read a book written by a woman
41. - read a book from your own personal TBR list

Trisha | 391 comments I think you started Family Family on Sunday (before the round start date: Monday) - so we can't use it for this challenge

do you want to buddy the Ellie Black one in this group??

message 112: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments Did I? lol Maybe so. I thought I started it on our way back....OHHHHHH, that was Sunday! lol OMG! OK, sure, Ellie Black it is.

Looking at the scores, at least one team had everyone doing a buddy read so they got 250 points for that! Wow! Nearly every team had several buddy reads. I got LOW points, but I don't know which tasks score more. As it turned out, the book I used had 4 other tasks that would've worked. A couple would've gotten higher scores and a couple lower. Not knowing which are more difficult makes it harder to guess.

message 113: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments DARN! If we had read Ellie Black last week and use "name in title" it would've been worth 101 points! lol We missed it!

Jill (jilljorox) | 131 comments Would we consider a bicycle a type of vehicle?

message 116: by Trisha (last edited Jun 19, 2024 09:57AM) (new)

Trisha | 391 comments ooh man, that's a good question!!

If I google for a definition I get:

Vehicle:
a thing used for transporting people or goods, especially on land, such as a car, truck, or cart.

and if we use that, then I'd say YES! You can transport people or goods on a bike but I don't know, that might be one for the mod of the game. What does everyone else think?

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments Trisha wrote: "Vicki, I made our Buddy Read thread for Ellie Black : https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/..."

Great! I'll see you there! :) lol

message 118: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments I think bicycle counts! I looked it up too and it says "it's a form of transportation" and it says "it's a vehicle" so I say it works!

The actual dictionary definition says
1. to ship or transport directly by bicycle
2. a vehicle with two wheels in tandem...

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments I had the vehicle question in message 95
I looked at more than just th Google definition.

Also, two of you said that "ANY" vehicle was the key. I was looking at spaceship and boat as options.

message 120: by Alison (Lady Coffin) (last edited Jun 20, 2024 02:15PM) (new)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments I have not started mine, so if you all change your mind that it is a narrower definition then I will need to know to I can read, or listen to, the correct book.

message 121: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 391 comments I still think boat and spaceship are vehicles, for sure!

message 122: by Alison (Lady Coffin) (last edited Jun 20, 2024 03:57PM) (new)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments I think a bicycle would also work. A motorcycle would, and what is it really but a motorized bicycle. That is how they started out.
It, being a bicycle, is a form of transportation that can take people and goods from place to place. Much easier than walking or a CART pulled by an animal.

Week 3's tasks have been posted in the GISH II info, rules, and tasks thread.

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments I got a shortish Audiobook, that has a camper on it, done. I might change it if I can get something else read, but it fit for another challenge so.... 🤷🏽‍♀️
I will get a post up later.

Trisha | 391 comments I've updated our task list for Week 3!! Yay!

Also, just a heads up - next Friday, I will probably post tasks very late
I have my test next Friday, mid day for me and it's 4 hours - so I'll be gone for hours and not back until late -

so I'll update our tasks next week really late! :)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments COMPLETION Week 2

Tents, Trails & Turmoil (Camper & Criminals #11) by Tonya Kappes Tents, Trails & Turmoil (Camper & Criminals #11) by Tonya Kappes
Started 6/20/2024
Done 6/20/2024
216 pages, Default Edition
GISH task: #37 . No one talks about the fact that the destruction of the Death Star put thousands of Stormtroopers out of work. Luckily the Empire has a pretty robust social safety net and most of them have been retrained and placed in new jobs, the majority of which have been in the transportation sector. Let’s see a stormtrooper driving or flying a large passenger vehicle. - read a book with any type of vehicle on the cover
2nd GISH task: #32 . Visit a local bakery or food market. Get them to donate still-edible items to a women’s shelter. Speak to the women’s shelter first to make sure they will accept donations like this. - read a book written by a woman

But ALSO fits:
#31. You’ll find all you need to complete this item here: https://yung.cloud/index.php?a=track&......... I have no idea where this link will take you nor do I require you to go there. For all I know it's not safe! - read a book that is tagged 'Mystery'

#39 You’ve heard of Cabbage Patch Kids, Garbage Pail Kids, and the Pacific Garbage patch. Let’s see a Great Pacific Garbage Patch Kid, (a cabbage-patch kid made from garbage you pick up from your local beach or lakefront), complete with adoption certificate. - read a book written by an author whose first, middle or last name begins with C, P, or K

#41. Show us your own personal “Stairway to Heaven”. - read a book from your own personal TBR list

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments Anyone think I should chance tasks for my second one to get potentially more points?
I can not decide if #39 or #32 might have more GISH points than #31.

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments Did you gals do a buddy read this week for The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer The Wishing Game
Looks like it would work for a bunch for week 3.

#54 - author is significant character
#61 - Award or nominee
#63 - MC first name L
#78 - Caption/blurb

Also possibly:
#54 - audiobook (it is the version I was able to get from Libby first)
#56 - favorite genre
#73 - purchased book

Vicki, did you go here and look at the list of points with the tasks?
Remembering it is not about the book tasks but the GISH tasks.
I went thru the GISH tasks, and tried to at least group them harder and easier. Then ignored the easy ones to see what books I have for ones I felt had harder GISH tasks.
But sometimes it is just impossible to guess correctly.

But also. As with the Star Wars one this week, week 2, I just liked it, and have my fingers crossed.

I would think #39 would have better points because it limits your books so much (and makes you have to look for one)
female author and tagged mystery are pretty easy to find

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments Jill, you think task #32 Woman Author, will be worth more than task #31 Mystery?

If the points had anything to do with the reading tasks I would agree with you. But they don't. She said she was using the GISH assigned points for the original tasks.
