Just one week? That went so fast!

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 1078 comments I think I'm usually the lowest scoring member each week so it's hard for me to say. The others on the team seem to have this consensus for higher ranked tasks: 132, 142, 145, 149, 153 and 156., with 156, 132 and 142 ranking highest among those. I say go with your gut (but my gut must have something wrong with it for this challenge).

I had originally been thinking... (but not in this order)
132 - published last year
137 - default edition is 400 pages
142 - horseback riding
144 - not technically on my tbr list
155 - standalone
156 - MPG romance
also
131 - library book
146 - while doing errands

But not sure #142 qualities, it is such a tiny mention. It was one of my top two choices.
Thinking #132 and likely 156 will be my top two, if not #142.

Happy Place by Emily Henry Happy Place by Emily Henry
Started 7/16/2024
Done 7/20/2024
400 pages, Default Edition
GISH task: #156 Sure, Misha and HRH Queen Elizabeth II had a rocky year in 2016 with their “Brexit Breakup”, but despite a brief conscious uncoupling, theirs is a love that stands the test of time. Prove it by showing us Egyptian hieroglyphics, Greek urns, or other recently unearthed archaeological finds that prove theirs is a love that has lasted through the ages. If you’re choosing to do a hieroglyphic, you may NOT permanently deface any stone - use chalk! - read a book with 'Romance' as an MPG
2nd GISH task: #132 Couch Surfing 2: The Revenge. Last year, in our infinite wisdom, we suggested “couch surfing: real surfing, real couch.” We quickly came to our senses and pulled the item for safety reasons, but it’s been a year, and we don’t hold onto the past. Couch surfing: Let’s see it in the real surf with a BUOYANT (e.g.,inflatable) couch. You may not use a real couch as it’s too dangerous and bad for the ecosystem. Make it happen. - read a book published a year ago (in 2023)
Buddy Read: Vicki, Alison, Trisha - Happy Place

ALSO FITS -
131. Make a collage that features things only locals from your town would know about. Display it prominently in a public space in your town. - read a book that you got from a public space (read a library book :)

137. Take an elderly person (at least 70 years old) on a joyride in their favorite car (same make and model and vintage) from their youth. You and the senior must be dressed in period attire that reflects the era when the car was manufactured. - Read a book with a 7 or 0 in the page count

❓️142. As all gishers know, a Gish Gallop can only be performed by a Fortune 2000 CEO in the lobby of his company’s headquarters on a hobby horse or a live pony. Caption your video with the name of the company and CEO that we are watching as they Gish Gallop. - read a book where the MC rides a horse

144. An impromptu concert consisting of a chocalho, an apito, a reco-reco, and a pandeiro. (Bonus points if you perform in front of, or in, the Teatro Amazonas.) Oh, and of course the musicians are playing Carry On my Wayward Son. - read a book that is NOT on your TBR list or have scheduled for a different reading challenge

146. Two nice suburban monster moms out for a day of shopping at Hoxton’s Monster Supplies in England. - listen to at least part of a book while running errands

155. Over the years, we’ve had menstrual-hygiene supply sculptures of everything from dinosaurs to seagulls to puppies. We’ve also gotten a lot of flak for encouraging waste, and in protest gishers have donated thousands of menstrual pads to shelters, (which actually proves that in fact we at GUSHWHES can do no wrong). This final year’s list wouldn’t be complete without a menstrual-hygiene sculpture, so we’re ending this by splitting the difference: Create a tiny, perfectly sculpted statue of Michelangelo’s David or another famous historic sculpture of your choosing out of a SINGLE tampon, and then donate at least 1 box of menstrual hygiene supplies to your local shelter. - read a standalone book

You planned to join us for the buddy read, right? I'm just curious if you do add your comments if we will get 50 points for your book, too. I'm pretty sure we will. I put down on the SS that I buddy read it with you and Trisha both. Somehow we have to make up for lost points due to my situation last week. Oh, some great choices.
In my current mood, the first is a big no.
The last sounds amazing, but it says "A heartrending family saga..." and I am not up for that currently.

Let me check on Bookshops & Bonedust, unless you think it is better read after Legends & Lattes?

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments Trisha, we have two buddy reads that are during this week's tasks: The Housemaid Is Watching (The Housemaid, #3) by Freida McFadden which I finished on July 23 and Bookshops & Bonedust (Legends & Lattes, #2) by Travis Baldree which I am 26% in. Do you want to use either of those to buddy read for points this week? I know you have other books you need to read too so I'm not sure where you stand on catching up with either of those.

After looking at the tasks, both of those books only fit it these tasks:
174. An Airbnb listing for the gishbus. - read a book where the MC stays at an inn, motel, hotel, hostel, or an Airbnb (Housemaid only fits if we can say Suzette is the MC). I think she's one of the MC's, but what do you think? Obviously Millie definitely is.
179. Share an audio dream diary of your first thoughts as you wake up every morning of the Hunt. It must be the first thing you do before you get out of bed. - read a book with "dream" or "diary" in the text of the book

A Thousand Times Before by Asha Thanki
179. Share an audio dream diary of your first thoughts as you wake up every morning of the Hunt. It must be the first thing you do before you get out of bed. - read a book with "dream" or "diary" in the text of the book

That one is for sure, but don't know about things like MC drinks coffee or stays at hotel, etc. or candle until we read it, but it's a possibility.

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments No problem Vicki, glad to help you find a new series. I have enjoyed the Rebecca Zanetti series I have previously read, and this one is good also. But high in the Romance with the Suspense.

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments When I looked further into my books that fit task #180, the 50% B or W cover, one of them fits #181 also pregnant character. Two of the characters become friends because they are both pregnant.
So, that is what I am going with.

Chaser (Dive Bar, #3) by Kylie Scott Chaser (Dive Bar #3) by Kylie Scott - done 7/24/2024
Started 7/23/2024
Done 7/24/2024
270 pages, Paperback, Default Edition
GISH task: #168 When the apocalypse comes and the power goes out, you are going to be sorry you are so digitally dependent! Have your social media page printed on microfiche… just in case. - read a book where the MC uses a candle or oil lamp
Female mc lights candles for a romantic ambiance.
2nd GISH task: #180 Cinema has evolved, but some actors don’t. Let’s see a silent film actor against a 1920’s style black-and-white set. The actor must have exaggerated facial expressions, and the score must be nickelodeon-style piano music. Suddenly, the music changes. It’s hip hop and modern technology comes in with color and sync sound, but she’s still black and white and still mouthing words with title card. - read a book with a cover that is 50% black or white
Tineye said it was 69.8% black.

ALSO FITS -
172. It’s time to reflect on missed opportunities. Let’s see the Item List Misha SHOULD have made all these years. Give us your team’s ideal GISHWHES Item List with a minimum of 10 Items. If the majority of the items you create look like no thought was put into them (and you were just quickly writing down items to get the points), you will receive zero points. - read a book from a Listopia list that you have voted on.
It is on the Best Book Boyfriends Listopia that I voted on previously.

176. For our GISH cousins in the antipodes where the days are short and the nights are cold: Establish a TLC station under the iconic clocks at Flinders Street Station in Melbourne or on the steps of the Opera House in Sydney, and provide a little warmth – be it a coffee, a heat pack, or simply a smile – for those making their journey to work on the cold winter mornings. - read a book where the MC drinks coffee
They drink coffee a few mornings.

⭐️❓️🌟181. Let’s see a 2,000-word essay published on twitter in 140-character bursts about the best way to get pregnant for the 10th time. (I’m sorry, but I promised someone this would be an item.) - read a book with a pregnant character in it
Two characters are pregnant in this book.
