Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 587 comments How to Play:
* Each team member will need to read one book each week.
* The book must match a task from that week's list.
* Books must be at least 140 pages. Audio book page length is determined by the first paper version that shows up.

IMPORTANT POINTERS

🛎️ Tasks will be posted Friday Morning.
Start Time: NOT BEFORE before Monday morning (12:01 am)
Reporting Time: NOT AFTER Sunday night (midnight).
All timings are your own time zones.
🛎️ Each task gets points. The points may be higher if the task is trickier.
If the book you're reading fits a second GISH task, you can claim those points as well.
🛎️ Only a maximum of two (2) tasks can be claimed per book.
BUDDY reading a book for a task is worth additional 50 points.
--------------------------
For example, a single book can yield us:

1. You get points for the 1st task you read for.
2. More points if your book obviously matches a second task.
3. 50 more points if you buddy read a book with someone on your team.

You can add 2 and/or 3 to the mandatory 1 for additional points.

Example:
Task 566. Read a book with an MPG of 'Classic Literature'.
Task 568. Read a book where the MC's name is Elizabeth.
If you Buddy Read Pride and Prejudice, you get points for 1, 2, and 3
-------------------------------------------

🛎️ Team members can read the same task.

PLEASE NOTE

🛎️ If a team member has scheduled an absence, someone else on the team can match their book up to 4 different tasks so as not to miss points.

🛎️ If someone misses two deadlines, they will be removed from the game.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 587 comments description

Heya, everyone!
I am Apoorv, currently live in Boston, MA - on the east coast of North America. I have been around the GoodReads aisles for a long long time now and absolutely love all kinds of team challenges. So, when I saw this one and realized that I never did the first one - I wanted to correct that immediately :P

Excited to be in the same team as all of you. This challenge seems low-key, but I am pretty intrigued about our tasks. It is one of my favorite parts of any team challenge when we have to go find an obscure book that fits a crazy category and then try and finish it before the time runs out. The scavenger hunt is indeed excited (and massively frustrating pretty much every time :P)

I am looking forward to hearing from each one of you.
Housekeeping wise, nothing crazy - let's just have fun! But if you happen to be delayed in your completion for any week or real life suddenly decides to be painful - please do ping me (either here as a comment or a message in my inbox), so that I don't send a search party after you! :P

Okay, finally here are some team name suggestions (since we are Team 5). Feel free to add yours to the pool and then we can choose the one that the majority likes. :-)

- I Plead the Fifth!
- High Fives
- It's 5 o'clock Somewhere!
- Five Alive and in Overdrive
- Cinco de Mayo
- The Quintessentials
- The Five People You Meet on GoodReads

Kat (bookworm2017) | 111 comments Hello everyone. I’m from Glasgow in Scotland. I haven’t done this challenge before so I thought I’d join in. I like thrillers, crime and romance. Mainly contemporary romance but I’ve dipped my toe in paranormal romance recently. I’ve noticed there’s 26 tasks each week which is helpful. What kind of genres does everyone else like so we can do buddy reads and get extra points?

RaeRae | 241 comments Hi everyone. Just checking in here. I really like I Plead the Fifth! for a name. I am from Fargo, North Dakota middle America. I read a mish mash of genres but I enjoy romance of all kinds the most and then I would say it would be cozy mysteries and thrillers. All over the board. I would love to do some buddy reads and tackle this massive TBR.

Sounds like we could do some buddy reads. I recognise your name so May of being in another challenge with you.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 587 comments Alrighty! We have everyone checked in! Yaay! :D
The Tracking Spreadsheet is up and the link is in Message 3 above.

But again, feel free to add a completion post here, if spreadsheets are not your thing. I just created one, so that everything stays in one place and it would be easier to track things.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 587 comments We should definitely do Buddy Reads, because that is a whole bunch of extra points and we can use the same book in multiple locations. Easy points! Haha!

Do you folks think a certain tasks speaks to you from the list?
Which ones do you think might have more point valve?

message 23: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 232 comments I like I Plead the Fifth! too. :)

I'm thinking I might read Water for Elephants - it is on the BOOKS THAT WON'T WASTE YOUR TIME list. It has been on my TBR for a long time! I think it would also work for character under 30 years of age (although don't know for sure yet). It was first published in 2006 (not sure if that works for first published 10 years ago as the prompt seems specific to the year 2014 as it doesn't say "at least 10 years ago") and has a "3" in the page count. So it will work two prompts. Is anyone else interested in reading this book?

Also, it looks like we don't find out how many points a prompt is worth until after we complete the week?

message 24: by Lisa (last edited Jun 07, 2024 09:23AM) (new)

Lisa | 232 comments Another book I have checked out from the library that works is The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi as it is tagged ADVENTURE. It would also work for prompts: first name in title, hard covered book, ART in author's name, "3" in page count, and it's possible there could be a mythical creature in it too, but won't know until I read it. Anyone interested in reading this one? This one might meet more difficult prompts and be worth more points, but I'm not sure how to guess....

Lynnette | 141 comments I love Plead the Fifth too as well as The Quintessentials. I'm originally from Boston, MA, but I currently live outside of Phoenix, AZ. I am thinking of reading Black Wolf: A Novel if anyone wants to Buddy read with me. It checks at least two of the boxes.
I don't like Romances so much anymore, I'm not a fan of Memoirs and not really into Fantasy. Otherwise, I'll read whatever.

Also considering Worry by Alexandra Tanner as it is shorter and fits at least one of the tasks, maybe two if I can convince the team that the bowl of fruit is a hat? Any takers?

Can you fix the spelling of my name please?

Kat (bookworm2017) | 111 comments The buddy reads aren’t my thing but I’m sure I’ll find something with someone.

Remember we can’t start until Monday

Hotel Tango 23: Responding To The Unknown is one of my options anyone interested?

I’ll have a look at peoples lists later

message 30: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 587 comments These are the tasks that I think might be worth more points, based on them being slightly more tricky to satisfy.

- Read a book where the MC is a grandparent OR under 30 years old
- Read a book with illustrations or drawings in it
- Read a book where the MC is a first responder (firemen, paramedics, ER medics, nurses, police)
- Read a book that some might consider spicy
- Read a book where the MC is an immigrant (has moved to a new country)
- Read a book a mythical creature in it
- Read a book that is not a WOMBAT (a Waste of Money, Batting and Time), it must be on the BOOKS THAT WON'T WASTE YOUR TIME list

So, if any of your books fits multiple of these, that is the one we probably should target.
What do you folks think?

I might be down for this. Been meaning to read it for a bit.
Let me check if my libraries have a copy.

Also, it looks like we don't find out how many points a prompt is worth until after we complete the week?

Yeah, that's what makes it fun! And gives us no idea how to proceed. Haha! :P

message 36: by Lynnette (last edited Jun 12, 2024 09:11PM) (new)

Lynnette | 141 comments I'm definitely reading Black Wolf (Antonia Scott, #2) by Juan Gómez-Jurado . I don't have a whole lot going on next week so even though it's long I'll be able to get it done. It meets # 12 and #21

Book and Author: Black Wolf Juan Gómez-Jurado
Date Completed: 6/12/24
Pages: 372
GISH task: # 21
2nd GISH task: #9

12 didn’t really work, it was mist, not clouds

message 37: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 232 comments I'll be doing either Water for Elephants or The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi as I have both from the library and both could meet two prompts.

Kat (bookworm2017) | 111 comments I’ll definitely be doing Hotel Tango 23: Responding To The Unknown and possibly another one if I can finish in time. I need to look at the pages needed for this one as I have a short read as well

Lisa, I will probably read Water for Elephants as well, just got it from my library. So, we can do a buddy read on that one.

Lisa | 232 comments Sounds good Apoorv - do we need to set up a thread to discuss? Should we make some sort of schedule? I'm not exactly sure what we need to do, but will look into it.

message 42: by RaeRae (new)

RaeRae | 241 comments I will be reading Alien Zoo A Neurospicy Posessive Monster Romance (Cryo Crisis Possessive Predator Romances Book 1) by Deiri Di since I have family coming into town the later part of the week. It fits Science Fiction and some might consider spicy prompts. I would be interested in doing a buddy read with someone next week when I have a little more time.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 587 comments Just created a folder for us in the Buddy Read section.

Buddy Read: Water for Elephants

We can continue to track our progress there and create a schedule as well. Haven't seen the chapter breakdown yet, plan on starting later today.

Lisa | 232 comments Apoorv - I requested a thread for us in the buddy read section of this group - I think that is the correct protocol, although it also looked like I might just be able to start a topic on my own? So if no one sees the request in a timely manner, we can try that.

ETA: I deleted my request since you got us one! thank you

Yes, I'm reading Water for Elephants for the first week. And suggesting A Great and Terrible Beauty for the second week.
