Now, really, I was so hyped to start this series, I really wanted to like, but I’m over halfway with the book and I’m FIGHTING not to dnf this one. Is it because I’ve not read Caraval or is just overhyped..?
I hate Evangeline, she’s so naive and stupid and the book is so repetitive. Every time Jacks calls her “little fox” or “pet” I cringe so bad. And those moments that I think were supposed to be sexy when he approaches her and gets blood on her lips and all of that just gave me second hand embarrassment.
Like it was marketed as a YA romantasy but to me this is giving… middle school. Idk ahahah

What got me into YA fantasy books with romance was daughter of the moon goddess, or the girl who fell beneath the sea. Those were 5 stars mainly because I loved the female leads but Evangeline.. oh girl if I only I could slap some sense into her.

I’m never so “mean” about a book but this time I feel like I’ve been deceived ahahah please tell me that I’m not the only one disappointed by this book

this is why i’m scared to read it everyone says it’s so good but they said that about caraval and to be honest i was confused for majority of caraval

i know a few people who also really didn’t like ouabh and found both jacks and evangeline quite annoying

i read the books bc theyre my besties fav saga. i found the plot to be okay, but the writting, specially in the first book, was awfull. the first and second book were okay, but i didnt like at all the thrid. like there was all of this building up for nothing. i started reading caraval soon after and i only read the first one. the second one is from a different pov and i found the character annoying in the first book, so i simply stopped.

i mean, it's ok not to like ouabh, everyone is entitled to their own opinion ofc, but i LOVE evangeline and jacks and the plot. part of why i love evangeline is that, unlike a lot of fmcs, she's not a pick-me and she's very girly. she can be brave, escape death, and be adventurous while still owning her identity and holding on to her love of true love and fairy tales (her innocence). she's very real, at least for me. HOWEVER, i do think you should've read caraval first. idk how i would've enjoyed ouabh without caraval, it's very necessary if you want to understand the characters, their motives, and the type of world they're in.

i totally respect your opinion even though i love the caraval/ouabh universe.
i think reading the caraval trilogy first is the smartest move, cause it introduces you to the universe and also shows you how the characters are. Specifically, i think it’s in Legendary when Jacks is introduced, and therefore, when you get to once upon a broken heart the nicknames and “flirtatious” behavior doesn’t seem so cringy.
also, once upon a broken heart it’s an good book, but the great one is the ballad of never after

I understand you bestie. i personally loved the series and would die for jacks. but i understand if you won't like it. because definitely Eva is so stupid at the start. she starts being confident and smart around the middle of the second book.

before that... you've to deal with it. please don't DNF it. it's worth reading till the end.

can someone tell me if legendary is worth reading because i don’t really like tella at the minute

and yeah don't worry. I myself read OUABH before having any idea about caraval. it doesn't matter really.

@maia. I DEFINITELY HATE TELLA AND THIS BOOK WILL RUIN SCARLETT'S CHARACTER. but finale is quite good. so try surviving through legendary. I'm officially the member of I HATE Tella no matter what group

i was also confused for about 99% of caraval but everyone’s saying to give legendary a go so i might as well

i hated tella and loved scarlett in caraval, then i loved tella and hated scarlett in legendary, and finally i loved them both (but tella a little more) in finale. i was also confused throughout caraval but they literally tell you that nothing's real and it's all part of the game. if you keep that in mind, the book makes so much more sense, since everything is part of the game. the stakes seem high and everything seems like a matter of life or death but it's... not. PLS GIVE LEGENDARY A TRY

I didn’t even know that this was a spinoff from Caraval, that’s why I completely skipped that series first.
Anyway, I will push through but I think my main problem is that I have the biggest beef with Evangeline. I like very bossy female reads, more rational ones I guess 😪
And I feel like every “intimate” moment is soooo forced. Like when he hugged her after the poisoned tears and she was on his lap idk it really gave me the worst second hand embarrassment.

Anyway I will finish it and see how it goes, and if in the end I wanna also continue the series.

yayy!!! i guarantee you'll like eva and ouabh as a whole more in the second book. it's 100% the best book of the trilogy! also, if you're ok with spoilers for caraval, i recommend reading jacks' character page on the fandom wiki that way you appreciate jacks more. the intimate scenes seem forced for a reason, it's part of his character and backstory :)

@Maia i know. I felt physical HATRED for Tella ever since the ending of Caraval. I mean.... she traumatized her sister and then went like.... "oh it's no big deal.... I was just trying to help you.... I'm the person who has problems... Scarlett you should not worry." also, legendary Tella And Dante romance sucked to me. I hated both of them

but yeah. it worked slightly better in Finale.

oh god i see everyone saying they love dante but i thought he was a bit of an ass in caraval so idek how to feel i guess i just have to read it
but the entire ending of caraval confused me am i supposed to like julian or not and is legend bad or is he good

@littlefox, first of all. I'm jealous of your ID name. but i too definitely hated Scarlett at the end of Legendry. But the finale made me feel.... tella is finally a little bearable and Scarlett is my lovely girl.

i feel like my opinion of the sisters depended on the pov. like i HATED tella for what she did at the end of caraval, but her pov in legendary made me like her more and hate scarlett, and the dual povs of finale made me like them both. i like that the characters can make bad decisions and redeem themselves, but it's definitely very odd that when it's one sister's pov, i end up disliking the other sister.

@Maia i hated dante in caraval and i definitely have mixed opinions on him later on in the series (some of his actions are questionable but he's hot so it's ok :D). legend is more good than bad, but he's morally conflicted sometimes. and yes, you're supposed to like julian, but when there are 3 love interests in caraval, you don't have to (you really get your pick of the litter lmaoo).

@maia you should start liking Julian because he is going to be the only trustworthy guy in the series. everyone else's loyalty is 200% questionable. also, legend will show up in the end of Legendry. but i only started being okay with him around the middle of Finale.

in legendry and Finale, I kept CRINGING EVERYTIME Jacks called Tella "Love" and randomly being head over heels for her.... I kept going like..... " only if u have put this much effort and trust in your and Eva's relationship you scoundrel!!!.... "

btw genuine question everyone..... WHY DID EVERYONE WANTED TO DO "IT" with Tella? like I get that she is blonde and pretty. but EVERY SINGLE GUY WANTED TELLA!!! why -_-
