Larry Johnson | 2 comments Hello
I am new here and my main genre is horror. I am looking to for a book that's kind of like Game Of Thrones but easy to follow lol. I have tried Fantasy books in the past but they seem so hard to follow. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3177 comments Larry, if you mainly like horror, Robert McCammon has an excellent fantasy/historical fiction/horror hybrid series starting with Speaks the Nightbird. The series gets better and better with each book!

Which ones have you tried in the past? Also, in what way "like" Game of Thrones? Political power plays? Dragons?
More info would definitely help narrow down what you might enjoy. :)

Off the top of my head, here are some horror & horrory fantasy that you might enjoy, depending on your tastes:

The Library at Mount Char (Note: This is one that can be a bit confusing, but the payoff is worth the sticking with it.)
The Warded Man
Devil's Creek
Midnight Riot (Note: this is the start of a series, and I've only read the first 3 of them. These are urban fantasy, but have an old world feel, especially in the first book. Quite dark at times, but with a good mix of humor.)
The Hollow Places

And I would be remiss if I didn't recommend some King:
The Dark Tower series is his magnum opus of horror/fantasy. If you're not familiar, it starts with The Gunslinger, but that one is more in a western style, and can be quite dry. I usually recommend if people struggle to get into that one, to instead start with the second book, The Drawing of the Three, which is much faster paced, and then come back to The Gunslinger at the end of the series. (It works. I promise.)

Also, definitely recommend The Talisman & Black House. In the first book, fantasy/horror/adventure coming of age quest (don't let the age of the protagonist concern you - this is NOT a kids book), and more horror/fantasy in the sequel, which takes place years later.

Sarah | 3175 comments We’re reading the Dandelion Dynasty books right now which starts with The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. Maybe not the first book as much but the second book we’ve compared to Game of Thrones a couple times.

The writing style is unique? So the group that read it seemed to be split on whether they liked it or not but might be worth giving it a try.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 1894 comments S, recommending your own books is considered self-promotion in this group, and should be kept in the Member-Author Sales and Promotion folder.
