July 2024 Group Read Nominations

+1 Duma Key
I also nominate The Outsider.
It's a fabulous book that doesn't get enough love. One of his previous characters, Holly Gibney, has a small supporting role but you don't need to read other books with her to follow. I had never read anything with Holly before when I read The Outsider and I followed just fine.

That is safely a favorite source of short stories.
I dabbled back in the day with the GUNSLINGER series, and back then wasn't ready for it. Will say, though, it freaked me the EFF out when I read my last name Castner.....mentioned as a side character. It's super rare, and that scared me LOL
Has anyone read the Gunslinger series? Worth it?

I personally think most of the books in the series are among King's best writing.

For all our fans of the biggest name in modern horror, July's group reads theme is "Stephen King has written books other than The Shining, It, The Stand, Pet Sematary, Carrie and Cujo."
While everyone knows most of his earlier and most famous titles, including short story collections, Uncle Stevie has published around 80 books. Thus, we're going to dip a little deeper into his catalog for this month's reads.
The following are NOT ELIGIBLE:
- As the title suggests, THE SHINING, IT, THE STAND, PET SEMATARY, CARRIE, and CUJO
- BAG OF BONES, DESPERATION, REVIVAL and FULL DARK, NO STARS (all were previous group reads)
- The SEQUELS in series,( i.e. Mr. Mercedes, The Dark Tower, Gwendy) as not everyone has read the first books
- Some short stories have been pulled from collections as singles (i.e. THE MIST, THE LANGOLIERS), but are pretty brief, so we'll stick with the full collection
That still leaves somewhere around 40-50 novels/collections from which to choose.
So gives us those Stephen King books you've been dying to read!
