I had two questions -
1. My understanding is that a book in hand trumps even worldcat - even if there's a hundred page difference. Is that correct?
2. (and I think this is the crux of the problem) how do we handle photo plates? Are they included in page counts? It stands to reason to count them if they are scattered through the book but this book has 130+ plates at the end.

The edition page count 656 was from Amazon & the publisher's page:

In reality the OP's reported 474 + "about" 140 pages of plates at the end matches the WC entry I linked above closely enough that I would use the WC page count of 474 (last numbered page)+138(end plates)=612

I finally found something - looks like they are counted, but I'd be a bit concerned that the requester has only done an approximate page count.
