Debbie | 9 comments Kia Ora and hello. My name is Debbie Cowens and I'm an English teacher and writer living in New Zealand. I've been a fan of mystery books ever since I was young - I was especially fond of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie as a teenager.

I still like the classic whodunnits - especially Dorothy L Sayers and Ngaio Marsh, and I'm very keen on the books of Ruth Rendell, Ian Rankin, P.D. James.

I've read a little of the more thriller style crime writers and found them enjoyable. Open to recommendations of these but very keen on cozy mysteries and whodunnits.

Look forward to reading recommendations and finding out about new books on the discussions here.

Geza Tatrallyay | 43 comments Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther books, set before, during and after World War Two in Berlin and elsewhere are lots of fun and also educational.

Debbie | 9 comments WWII Berlin sounds interesting. I liked The Foyle's War series. I will have to get hold of some of this Phillip Kerr's series. Thanks.

I love her because her novels are very different, intelligent and a good read.

Karen (karenfromaustcrime) Have you tried some of the ones closer to home like The Petticoat Men by Barbara Ewing and obviously Ngaio Marsh's books. If you like a tad of romance as well Dinah Holman's A History of Crime: The Southern Double-Cross. Vanda Symons has some great books (procedurals) set in NZ, and from Australia you could try Felicity Young's Dody McCleland series.

Bill I've enjoyed most of your authors, Debbie. I'm just about to get acquainted with Ruth Rendell. Have you tried any of Kerry Greenwood's Phryne Fisher books, nice period mysteries set in Australia. Quite entertaining. Welcome to the group, by the way. I hope you enjoy yourself here.
