Sanjoy Kumar Boshu | 340 comments For series indicator in title field we use 1st bracket. In 1st bracket text not showing in book page. Only show in list or edition page. But when I actually need a text withing 1st bracket what can I do. Here is the book I need a text withing 1st bracket: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2....

Sanjoy Kumar Boshu | 340 comments As per librarian manual 3rd bracket [ ] used for transliteration in title. But its actually need a 1st bracket ( ) no other bracket is not suitable here.

Sanjoy Kumar Boshu | 340 comments Yes, using square bracket [ ] I can show the text in title. But I thing it is not the absolute solution.
No 1. It is contradictory from the rule of using transliteration in square bracket.
No 2. I can use square bracket but in many cases it is not appropriate(there are some rule to using 1st bracket is must for specific text) and not looking good.

So In this case I can say that this rule can be reform for using 1st bracket in title alongwith the series indicator rule.

Note: It is my personal opinion. Anyone can comment about this please.

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7859 comments It's important to follow formatting rules when working with any database.

I agree, it looks terrible. It's one of the reasons I'm not a fan of putting the series in the title, and I think they should change the programming so that parentheticals show, and get rid of the series altogether.

Dobby, I always try to follow the rule carefully that's why I asked for solution for this contradictory situation. But I think square bracket is not appropriate solution. Goodreads should make a way to show 1st bracket in title field and change formula to series indicator.

Tawnya | 4041 comments Putting a period after the parenthesis allows the full title to show up. Since many part of Europe have this as a standard format in their titles this adheres to policy. Those square brackets look awful. Why not use the braces like we were taught in math? {} They are closer in appearance to parenthesis and don't have that garish hardness. Whenever I see the hard brackets I mentally discount anything in the title figuring it is one of the trash outlets' products.

Its not workíng. Automatically close spaces after save.

Before this I used () after title. It worked but in edition page its showing extra (). That doesn't looks good.
You can try. Please.

Tawnya | 4041 comments It worked for me. Now that doesn't mean that the next librarian won't remove it.

GR really should have figured out the problem with parenthesis years ago. I used to come here specifically to see which book in the series I was reading. If there is a series page that is easily seen. But if there isn’t one, but the number is part of the title that is hidden I would never know. Unless someone knows to go to the "show all editions" they don't see it. If the is only the one book why would someone hit that. I doubt this is something that will ever change, since it seems to be on purpose.

You put a fulstop after title and the title showing with extra fulstop( I used a spaces that's why its didn't worked for me).

But is it a right solution? I don't think so. Goodreads should reform the formula for this.

Javier (palchetti) | 30430 comments I use fullwidth character parentheses when they are part of the title.
In case you don't have a system locale that comes with this option, you can copy-paste from here: ()
I don't think this is against policy as they represent the exact same symbol, just different format.

Could you please give an example link you used this type title.

It worked but looks like a extra space before paranthese that looks not good. But its better than before. Otherwise this symbol is rear in use. So maximun librabian need to copy paste. GR should need to change the policy for title field series indicator.

Olga Silvertongue (olgasilvertongue) | 6723 comments Javier, I like your method! I didn't know about this symbol. I'll save it for myself too.
