What is the Pick-It-For-Me Challenge?

The Pick-It-For-Me Challenge (PIFM) is a reading challenge where each participant gives and receives book recommendations based on a given a set of rules. The assignment method and book selection rules change each month so it’s always new and always different.

The idea of the PIFM challenge is that you will get new-to-you books and authors selected for you as well as a push to read some books that have been lingering on your shelves. You may not be interested in the new books recommended, which is why you also get a minimum of four books from your shelf.

You only have to read ONE book to complete this challenge!

After signups are closed, your names and any extra info will go into the super secret PIFM randomizer and it will select someone for you to recommend books to and someone to give you recommendations. This list will be posted along with any specific picking rules for the month.

In order to participate you need to either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable), or friend the person giving you recommendations. PLEASE NOTE: if you choose to keep your profile private, it is your responsibility to send a friend request to the person picking for you as soon as possible after the matchups are posted. Whether your profile is private or not, it is also very important that your profile be set to receive Private Messages (PMs) in case anyone needs to reach out to you (mods, organizer etc.)

Everything gets done in this thread so be sure to come back often!!!

Repicks:
You can ask for repicks if:
✱ The books picked for you are not yet released.
✱ If you have already read the chosen book(s) and they are on your ‘read’ shelf.
✱ If you did not receive four picks from your ‘to-read’ shelf, with at least one from your preferred shelf.

You may NOT ask for repicks because:
✱ A book is not available at your library.
✱ A genre or author you don’t enjoy.

INFORMATION NEEDED TO SIGN UP
Please sign up in this thread with the answer to the following question:

✱✱ What Romance author and/or sub-genre have you been enjoying most lately? ✱✱

✱✱ If you have a preferred shelf, please list it along with your pick! ✱✱

IMPORTANT DATES
Sign ups will remain open until June 23, 6 pm US EDT
For your convenience a Time Zone Converter: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock....

You’ll have until June 29, 9 pm US EDT to make your recommendations.

Please do not start reading your book(s) until the first of the month. You then have the entire month to read your pick(s) and give some feedback.

If you’re new please read the PIFM Guidelines and FAQ. If you have any questions that are not addressed there, please feel free to ask!

Please note that late sign ups will be included at the host's discretion and no one will be included after re-picks are assigned!✱

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments 2024 July – Picking Rules

While most of us have our favorite genres, we don’t usually limit ourselves to only books in that genre. With that in mind, we’re looking at romance genres this month. There will be four picking rules and for each one you will pick at least two books – one from your pickee’s TBR or preferred shelf, and one that is new to them.
***Please note*** While the rules are built around romance authors and genres, you aren’t necessarily limited to only romance titles, especially when it comes to your pickee's preferred shelf (if they have one). Keep in mind though that this is a Romance Readers group, so please try to make the majority of your picks, especially the ones that are new to your pickee, within the romance genre.

Now, on to the rules! Remember, pick one from your pickee’s TBR and one new to them book for each rule.

1. Jill Shalvis/Pamela Clare - Recommend books that fall into the Contemporary or Romantic Suspense genres, are humorous or have an alpha hero, or have a title or author with one of the following initials: J or P.

2. Sarah MacLean/Gail Carriger - Recommend books that fall into the Historical or Steampunk genres, have a close-knit group of family or friends, a character with an occupation traditionally dominated by the opposite sex(ex: male nurse, female firefighter, etc), or have a title or author with one of the following initials: S or G.

3. J.R. Ward/Ilona Andrews - Recommend books that fall into the Paranormal or Urban Fantasy genres, have a story involving military or paramilitary characters, have a strong, kick-ass heroine, or a title or author with one of the following initials: W or A.

4. Lexi Blake (aka Sophie Oak)/TJ Klune - Recommend books that fall into the Erotic Romance or LGBTQ+ genres, is a western, set in the Southern US, or is very emotional, or has a title or author with one of the following initals: L or K.

Please read through and follow the tips in Post #1 to help insure you choose books your pickee will be excited to read.

Have fun, everyone!

message 23: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 2 comments So this is my first time actually signing up!! It’s summer so I finally have the time! I am truly excited! Please whomever picks for me know that I very much like very dark and light erotic romance!! The dirtiest please ! Currently I have been in to Neva Altaj, A. Zavarrelli, and Michelle Hercules. But only A. Zavarelli is familiar. My desire is to finally read a book where the woman loves hopefully a mob/mafia man marries and gives him a child then gets kidnapped by the hot enemy whom she also falls for and gives him children as well. I know it sounds crazy but hey everyone has their own taste!!! Also if anyone finds that said book I explained and finds a similar if not same described with a burlesque vibe thrown in I will love you forever lol! But seriously I’m pretty picky!! You give me the good stuff and I will gladly return! Also if you can’t see my want to read shelf etc. friend me so you can!!
