Which English mystery would you like to read with us during August? This time is the turn of a more contemporary English mystery. Please choose a work from around 1960 onwards.

Joan (xstitchfan) | 84 comments I want to nominate the first book in the Traveling Cook series by Faith Martin or Joyce Cato. It was first published in 2010 as “Birthdays Can be Murder”, but later editions are titled “The Birthday Mystery”. It is a lighthearted cozy mystery with red herrings galore. I posted a favorable 3 star review. I usually give enjoyable cozy mysteries a maximum of 3 stars. I was sure I knew who the murderer was and I was so very wrong!

I'll add another that's on my shelves and said to be one of the best in the William Monk Victorian mystery series The Twisted Root by Anne Perry.

Great! Thanks icewineanne, adding now.

Pamela Mclaren | 365 comments Wow! All terrific books. I read The Twisted Root years ago and love Anne Perry's especially those Victorian tales. I also have read books by Griffiths and Cato and have enjoyed them — but both these nominations are new to me.

So any will be fun to dive into!

They do all look good, don't they? I think one more nomination would be just the ticket 😊

D Murder in the Crypt (Redmond and Haze Mysteries, #1) by Irina Shapiro

Hi all.

Not sure if this one fits here, but I would like to nominate this book. This one is on my wish list finds. I'm waiting for it to go on sale soon...hopefully. Sounds like a really good read.

Hi D,
It does sound good! For our group reads though we only choose books by English authors, as that is our remit.
Do feel free to talk about it in other threads though, and to announce yourself in the welcome thread LINK HERE if you like, so we can get to know you. 😊

I'll be setting up the poll tomorrow, so this is the last chance for another nomination.
