William Wooler is a family man, on the surface. But he's been having an affair, an affair that ended horribly this afternoon at a motel up the road. So when he returns to his house, devastated and angry, to find his difficult nine-year-old daughter Avery unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper.

Hours later, Avery's family declares her missing.

Suddenly Stanhope doesn't feel so safe. And William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbours become increasingly unhinged.

Who took Avery Wooler? Nothing will prepare you for the truth.

Beth Stewart | 30 comments This is an American novel. Location is the Boston area (i think). It’s within “a bus-ride to Manhattan”. I don’t usually read American mysteries but downloaded this one not realizing that the author is Canadian and the setting is the US

I still prefer British mysteries but this one was a good read

The best part was the last page; a “got you!” moment

Yes a complete error on my part that Beth.

We were light on nominations for June so I shot one in quick and didn't really look at where it was set.

No worries, David! It's been a while since i have read a mystery set outside the UK.

Pat Cody | 32 comments Everyone Here is Lying was disappointing to me by the end. After reading with interest the various reasons different people lied through out the book, I wanted the Nasty Nine-year-old to pay for her treachery that seriously hurt so many people. The ending was abrupt and unsatisfying. If some reassurance had been given that not every single person involved had to suffer onward from that little liar's actions, I might have felt more satisfied at the end. That didn't happen, so I'm giving this unpleasant book a 2.5.

It got three stars from me as I thought it was bloody obvious what had happened. The three stars are for the writing which is good. The story not so much.
