Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I was wondering which people prefer the lighter side of PNR/UF or the darker side?

For example Molly Harper's Jane Jameson series would be light it is funny and while there is a little conflict you are reasonably sure people won't die and it will work out?

Darker UF/PNR an example would be Feed, Monster Hunter Intentional or Dresden Files. In short the plot is darker and there is a good chance the main guy won't make it.

Or do you prefer like a combination of the two? I think this would be like Kate Daniels or Rachel Morgan (The Hallows)?

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I like them all, but sometimes if I'll seek out what I'm in the mood for.

Carolyn F. Ditto Darcy - it just depends on my mood. I like them both equally.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments The lighter books are not really my thing I think Molly Harper and Katie MacAlister are the exceptions. Typically I prefer middle of the road to darker elements.

message 5: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I don't like the light ones (or at least I haven't so far). I like middle of the road but dark is my favorite. The darker the better for me.

message 6: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) In general, I prefer the darker more intense books. They keep me turning the pages while I'm more likely to put a lighter book down. That said, I do enjoy the lighter ones as well - Charley Davidson for example.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I wonder does it seem like the lighter PNR/UF is becoming less popular?

Also while Charley Davidson is kind funny it is also kind of dark don't you think?

I think its probably somewhere in the middle. There are a lot of dark themes but there is also a lot of humor.

message 9: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments I basically like them all. But I've got to be in the mood or I put them down and come back to them later. Often its not the book's fault, but just my mood.

Exactly!

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 147 comments I prefer middle of the road. I won't read something dark, grim, and violent.

message 13: by Jacey (new)

Jacey | 4 comments I like light to middle of the road. I find the dark and grim ones exhausting. I thought Semi-Charmed by Isabel Jordan was a good blend of the two.

Gnome Claire *Wishes she was as cool as Gnome Ann* | 20 comments I like a mix- I like the light and funny ones as well as the darker ones. I found the light PNR/UF books a bit of gateway drug to the whole genre and found myself enjoying darker stuff the more I've read of them.
