Daisy | 313 comments Thank you all!! I'm feeling pretty good still. I was up most of the night and only slept about 4 hours this morning. I was a little sick and shaky this morning but feeling great now. I even made monkey bread for my girls today. I'm so happy that treatment has not kicked my butt so far.

This is certainly giving me plenty of reading time! :)

Good news Daisy.

Hope it keeps going well

message 909: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 313 comments Thank you all! I had a few rough days, tired and weak, not able to eat much but that has passed. I went shopping with my son last night, he decided to spoil me just a little. I had a really good time and it was great being able to get out for a little bit.

I got this if treatments keep going like this! Thanks for all the prayers, good vibes and positive thoughts sent my way!!!

message 910: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Good for your son! I'm glad you got some pampering and had some fun! You deserve to have happiness and joyful times.

message 911: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments That was really thoughtful for your son to plan something like this...because men don't usually like shopping. Good of him to spoil you, and I am sure it was great to get out for a bit!

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 1590 comments Amber, I signed the petition. I can't stand animal abuse of any kind. I cry every time they show those ASPCA commercials. My husband donates money every month in my name. Some of these abusers I want to do to them what they did to these poor innocent animals.

message 916: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I know how you feel, Paula. In a general update, I recently said I wouldn't mind doing to someone what they did to a puppy when he or she shot a puppy between the eyes with a nail gun.

message 917: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 1590 comments Amber I saw the most horrible picture the other day. This poor dog was chained to a fence in the back yard dead. The people moved away and just left the dog chained up with no food or water. They least they could have done was let it loose so it might have had a chance.

message 918: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Some people should NOT be allowed to own animals AT ALL!!!!!!

I strongly support lots of animal charities.

Cruelty to animals, especially the shooting of animals breaks my heart.

Fines should be much, much higher.

I agree totally with you Paula.

message 921: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Paula: Exactly. Poor thing would have had a chance if they'd let it loose.

Sean: I think that those who mistreat women (Trump), kids (pedophile priests), or animals (Michael Vick) are arguments in FAVOR of abortion on demand...retroactively.

That breaks my heart. Any and all cruelty to animals (or people)sickens me. That poor dog.

message 923: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Yep. Fortunately, it didn't seem to suffer long once he was found.

Jean | 2382 comments The last few months of 2016 were a little tough. In September, as some of you know, Chris and I both lost our dads just 4 weeks apart. Two nights ago, a friend whom I'd known for probably about 30 years died of liver cancer. I'd only learned of her illness two nights before that from a mutual friend. I've since learned that she was only diagnosed in mid-December and hospitalized shortly afterward. I suppose it's a blessing to go so fast, as it's a terrible disease, but she would have only been turning 60 in two weeks. She was such a vibrant, social person who loved words, puns, games, travel, and people. She was an ASL interpreter at a senior living facility and was a fantastic advocate for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. We played softball together for many years, and she was a trusted friend. I am stunned and so saddened. I'm learning that not many of her friends knew either; it was so sudden and so fast. Not how I expected the year to end.

Then last night after a New Year's Eve dinner with friends, we received a call from one of the friends who had been with us. She had a house fire and was so worried about her cats. We took 2 of them to the animal ER for smoke inhalation while she and her brother took care of her dog and other cats. Today she's at the hospital being treated for a severe cat bite by one of her animals that was so frightened. Fortunately, most of her home is okay (just smokey) as are her animals. We have the two who went to the kitty hospital staying with us until their home and their mom are okay again. Not how I expected the year to begin, but it could have been so much worse.

message 926: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments Jean - I'm so sorry for all the sorrows you and Chris are experiencing. 2016 was a terrible year and I am glad to kick it to the curb. It's very generous for you to take in the extra cats while your friend recovers from her house fire but yet, I'm not surprised because you and Chris have always been so kind. Wishing both of you a good 2017 and I think everyone could use some good and happy times.

message 927: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Thank you, Pat. Our friend needs surgery on her hand/arm. Fortunately, her brother and sister-in-law live next door and can take care of her pets. The two we have are doing okay. Barnaby is a very handsome tuxedo boy. He didn't eat yesterday, but he finally ate some baby food today. Noelle is a very cute, petite, lovable tabby girl. She's more outgoing and seems less stressed. We are keeping them separate from our cats - nobody needs that much stress!

Wow! You guys have been through the mill. So sorry for your loss but glad your friend and animals are ok. May the coming year be kinder. x

message 929: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Baby Boomer Americans will remember the old Timex watch ads: "Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'." We know that so many others have much more difficulty, pain, and sorrow. We are blessed.

Brenda | 2434 comments Jean, I'm so sorry about the turmoil and stress you and Chris are experiencing. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Barnaby and Noelle are lucky to have you, and your friend must be relieved to know they are well cared for. Hugs to you both!

message 935: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Thanks all. I haven't been on Goodreads much lately. 2 extra cats, plus our two most recent boys who "talk" constantly, make things really busy around here. Our friend goes for infusion therapy every day to treat the infection from her cat bite, all her cats are doing okay, including the 2 who are visiting us in our "spa" (our vet's name for their temporary digs), and the clean-up at her home is moving ahead. My thoughts go to the families of those that died tragically in London yesterday.

Especially Police officer DC Keith Palmer.

So sad a mother going to collect her young daughters and dies on the bridge.

All so tragic and very sad.

Jean, and Christine I'm so sorry about the stress you have both been going through. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. We also have had a rough year as Enrique's sister in Buenos Aires is dying of lung cancer. (stage 4 & also spread throughout). Her children have chosen not to tell her the truth, so she thinks that she is having difficulty breathing, and doesn't know why. We call everyday, but tonight she can barely talk. It is so hard on Enrique and the family, but we have to be strong. It is in God's hand.

Aymen Ben cheikh I didn't know where to post this, then I thought I ll do it here, it'something I posted in fb two years ago after loosing a friend and a cousin, the first one was killed by his instable younger brother, the second one in a car accident.
"It's hiding in the dark, watching us living and making plans, waiting for the oppurtunity to attack and turn us into a memory in the hearts of ones who loved us..."
