He fought back, convinced to his last breath he was going to beat it. She has accepted what will be will be.

Brenda | 2434 comments More grief and sorrow in the Best household. One of our beloved cats, Dusty, has passed away. He had liver disease for a long time, but he's no longer suffering. He had 16 years of love and play and cuddling, and we miss him every day. It's sad that he's not where we expect him: greeting us at the back door when we come home, waking me up in the morning with a furry paw on my nose, rotating around the house to whichever window the sun was shining in, running like a bat out of hell from one end of the house to the other and back. Now we have just his sister, and I think she misses him, too. Not looking forward to her day.

That's awfully sad. I didn't know you were a cat person let alone a pet keeper. I hope you are slowly healing from the sadness this death has caused you.

message 1035: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Hi Brenda. I am so sorry for you and your family. We get so attached to our pets. Didn't know you had cats. We have 2 Labs, now 8 years old. When an animal dies, he or she is like one of the family. Our labs are like our children, and even sleep on our King-size bed. Don't want to think about when that days comes...God bless Dusty.

message 1036: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments It's so very hard to lose a pet, but a 16 year old! Yes, it's painful to watch them suffer through illness, but it's still so hard to let go and say goodbye. I'm sure his sister does miss her Dusty and wonders where he went, although I know she understood that he was sick. Cats are so smart. Hold her close! Hugs to you all.

message 1037: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Hi Brenda, so sad for you, your hubby, and your little girl. Losing a fur child to us with no human kids around is like losing a human kid. I look at my seven and it's mind boggling that we will have to go through 7 more losses. Dusty was a very blessed boy to have had you as his mother. Gosh, you adopted his sister and gave him love, joy, warmth, comfy beds, yummy food, toys, and medical care. His 16 years with you had to have been so wonderful for him. Hold him close in your heart. He's there.

message 1039: by Mary Beth (new)

Mary Beth | 786 comments Brenda so sorry to hear your cat passed away. It is so sad when a pet passes away but 16 years. We have a dog that is like a child to me. Its so sad when they pass away. Our rabbit just passed away a month ago and we have another one that kept him company. He seems really sad that he is no longer there since we had the cages side by side. They use to kiss each other. So I know its sad but at least your cat isnt suffering anymore.

It's such a hard decision, but I take comfort in the fact that as I laid my head against Dusty's and said it's okay, you're a good boy, he purred.

Animal lovers all know how much you feel Brenda..

My animals are my children, as I am sure they are for you.

It can be tough to make such a difficult decision, but we must do what is best for our animals however much we love them.

My thoughts are with you deeply.

message 1046: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Thank you, Liz, Sean, and Ter'e. Yes, we sure do love our pets. I haven't been without a cat since 1980, and had several before then starting as a child. Every one of them has a place in my heart.

message 1047: by Ter'e (new)

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) | 798 comments I secretly hope you go adopt a kitty/cat that needs to be given a wonderful home. When our #1 cat died - Precious- David and I were devastated. We bawled our eyes out. Precious was simply the dearest. Within 2 weeks, I went and adopted a tiny 4 oz ball of Himalayan fur and we named her Lucy Poosey. I needed that hole in my heart to be filled with another kitty I could love and shower affection on. My husband thought it was too soon. Lucy had a rough start to her life. The breeder lied about the status of her health. By the first 24 hrs., I knew there was no way she would go back to that breeder. Our vet and I literally nursed her back to health. SHe lived 15 yrs and we showered her with love and affection. We never forgot about our love for Precious.........but our broken hearts were a tad more healed.

Now, we have our parrot and two small dogs.........if I had my way......I would go and adopt a kitty in a heartbeat. I sure miss having a cat that rules the house. Honey says NO!!!!! 😡😝

I hope another kitty worms its way into your heart!!!!! Soon. Sorry......that's just how I roll.

message 1048: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Maybe, Ter'e, maybe. All my cats have been rescues, including the one who had kittens in my closet three weeks after we got her. I still have Dusty's sister here, but she's 16 years old, too, so...

message 1049: by Ter'e (new)

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) | 798 comments Brenda......I have my fingers crossed. Not only do we grieve.......but our fur babies grieve too. Nothing like a new kitty to perk everyone up.
I'm telling you.......I want a kitty so bad. I know it would make Blu and Charley so happy........someone new to chase.
😍😻

Brenda | 2434 comments Hi dear friends. I see from above that no one has posted here since I lost my cat, Dusty, in July. Now, 5 months later, I’m back to say his sister, Mindy, passed away yesterday. I’m very sad, but I have 16 years of memories with these two furry kids.
