Tom Mathews | 671 comments I am sorry for your loss, Aymen. Hold tight to the memory of the good times you shared with her. I believe our loved ones are never truly gone as long as we remember them.

Aymen, I'm so sorry for your loss. She was blessed to have such a loving family spend time with her every week.

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments I am so very sorry for your loss, Aymen...

I also lost my aunt on Monday morning who was like a grandmother to me. I am happy that it sounds like you have a big family; makes the grief better to be shared with loved ones. God bless your family.

Worry for your loss too, Amy. An awful lot of sad news around at the moment.

message 356: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments Yes, Christine...it's been a very sad week. I put my mom on a plane yesterday to be there but I just couldn't afford to fly the both of us as I had flown my mom out for a visit. A lot of guilt on my behalf and sadness that she was visiting me and wasn't there when it happened. Just worried and sad for my mom having to deal with this week alone as I am an only child. I tell everyone that I know, please have more than one child. :) Everything is better in a pair.
I think my two kitties can sense my sadness and are always close by...it's so hard living far away from home.

message 357: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments My thoughts are with Aymen and my family right now. The holidays are always so hard for me as it seems I always lose someone at Christmas. I hadn't celebrated for five years before last Christmas. Slowly building it back up to be something special.

message 358: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Gosh, that's such a tough situation, Amy. But remember all you can do is all you can do. It sounds to me like you have done your very best considering everything. I am glad you have your kitties. I have 5 and can't imagine living without them. They sense our moods and feelings and can be so comforting.
XO

Sadly life can be so tough.

Soory for your loss Aymen.

This year I have lost 3 good friends, and it does shock you, especially when you get older.

Paul Alkazraji | 639 comments Seems that one year on from the attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices, a further ‘lone wolf’ terror attempt took place on a police station in the 18th district right next to Montmartre today - stayed there myself last year. That’s within sight of the much-loved tourist spot of the Church of the Sacré-Cœur. Bad news for Paris and Europe :(

message 371: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I heard that at least the explosives they found on the body were fake, Paul.

It sounds more like a 'suicide by cop' attempt than a serious attack.

message 374: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Hi everyone, I lost my 99 year old feisty aunt this morning to infirmities of the elderly. Up until a week ago, she was toodling around the nursing home with her walker, getting to the bathroom on her own and charming the staff. Though she has been losing weight for a year, she didn't really crash until a week ago. I've been going in every morning this week to talk to her (I am pretty certain she could understand me), and my feeling is strong that she was ready to go. Today when I got there she was breathing, but 10 minutes later she stopped. I think she waited for me. I am so glad I was there at the very end. She was much loved at the nursing home where she had lived since she and my folks came to Minnesota to live near me in 2001. She is singing with the angels now and oh so happy. God bless my Aunt Honey.

Thank you, Amy. It's tough, even when they are 99. Knowing she is where she wants to be now really helps.

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Thank you, Janet XOXO.

message 381: by Tom (new)

Tom Mathews | 671 comments You have my sincerest sympathy. My philosophy has always been that our loved ones are not truly gone as long as we cherish their memories. It sounds as if you and your aunt have shared a lot and that you will have lots of memories to keep in your heart.

message 382: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments My condolences Christine. It sounds like she lived HER life right to the end and left this world on her own terms. When it comes to the unfortunate end of a life that is a preferred way to go. I'm sure she was waiting for you. Our loved ones seem to be able to hang on or let go when they feel the time is right. You being there made it alright to let go.

message 383: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Christine, I am so sorry to hear about your Aunt. My grandmother died at 99 and left a deficit since she was the bingo organizer at her nursing home. I admire feisty seniors who obviously enjoy life up to the last minute.

Freda Malone | 418 comments 99 you say, Christine? My lord she must have been a feisty one, and fun. Big hugs from me and the boys. She will live on through your memories. I'm beside myself with the notion of living that long. My grandmother made it to 92. Rest in Peace, Honey.

Sorry for your loss Christine

message 394: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Sorry to hear it, Christine.

message 395: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Four foot nine (at most) - one has to have some feistiness to get to 99, don't you think? Honey (Lucille) sang opera when she was young. I'll bet there was a party in heaven yesterday! This has been a hard year for many folks - Aymen, Sean, Amy and others who have lost friends, family, pets...Hug your loved ones a little tighter and think kind, loving thoughts.

David Freas (quillracer) | 557 comments Though she may be gone from your life, Christine, she will live on forever in your heart and memories.

Jean | 2382 comments Just learned last night that my 88 y.o. dad went to the ER after he somehow ended up on the floor (lives alone since Mom died last year) and couldn't get himself up. This morning we learned that it is much more serious. The doctor told my sister that apparently he had a stroke and a heart attack at some point after this incident and that his kidneys are failing. I will be making the 3+ hour drive tomorrow to see him. At this point, things don't sound good.

Oh gosh. You've both been railroaded. I'm so sorry, Jean. I seriously hope there's some improvement when you arrive tomorrow. Get there safely xx

message 400: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Thank you, Janet. I am debating about going today - nervous energy! But they don't know much at this point, so I guess maybe I'll just sit tight for today.
