When I first started watching Shadow & Bone on Netflix, I didn't know that it's got parts of this duology. These characters were very interesting characters so I was intrigued by this duology. Still, I hesitated because I usually will have images from the adaptation haunting me and it did... I spent about the first third of this book trying to fit what I know from the Shadow & Bone trilogy & netflix adapation together with what I was reading and struggled. It was a lot better after I gave up doing that and just read...

This is a multiple POVs book; of each crew members. My favourite would be Kaz and Inej - as individual and my fervent hope for romantic entanglement. While each of these characters have their own chequered past, Kaz's was just tragic but his resourcefulness and resilience in combination with his very strong will and character basically made this book for me. Let's not talk about Matthias and Nina. As you know, I'm not a fan of enemies-to-lovers so they are at the bottom of my list lol

I was also caught by surprise by the cliffhanger-y ending! What! I should have known really but for some reason, had been lulled by a sense of security. Can't wait to read the conclusion.

Good as this is, the concluding book is better! This duology is the only Bardugo I have read so far. But it won't be the last. Nor have I watched the series. Definitely books you just let happen.
