I personally always put some music when I'm reading a book! Right now I'm going back to listening to one of my favorite bands - Cannons. They have groovy and chill songs and I'm honestly convinced their singer Michelle Joy is a literal siren 'cause it's almost hypnotic the way she sings lol

I also have friends who absolutely cannot listen to anything otherwise they'll not pay attention on what they're reading and then there's my boyfriend who listens to experimental sounds and overall very out of the box music while he reads so it always got me thinking, do you guys listen to music? Does it distract you or does it help to get into the book and it's atmosphere?

If you do listen to music while reading, please feel free to leave your band/singer suggestions, I listen to pretty much anything!

When I was younger I couldn’t listen to anything while reading, it would break up my focus so quickly. Now that I’m older (or maybe because I have noisy children), I can block out any noise distractions while reading. I also need white noise in the background to feel comfortable, including sleeping 😅 a dead silent room is incredibly jarring to me.

I usually read with the gentle hum of my air filter 😂 or outside in my garden on a breezy day so I can hear nature. When I do put music on, my tastes are all over the place! I try to find a playlist or album on Spotify that suites the mood of whatever I’m reading. At other times I’ll just put something ambient on, without vocals. My husband always has music playing somewhere around our home, so I can hear it and it’s nice when someone else choose the song while I dive into a book. I’ve been obsessed with Raye recently, her live performance at the Royal Albert Hall is amazing and that’s what I’ve been listening to. Her vocal technical skill is mind-blowing, so much control and soul. I’m a sucker for incredibly soulful and lower register female singers.

Andrea (sadrocketeer) | 3 comments I like Cannons! Very cool.

Sometimes I have music on, usually non vocal as it distracts me. Ranges from classical to lofi. Depending on the mood. Other times I have white noise, the loop sounds of a Star Trek ship on YouTube are my go to.
