Can You Recycle Race Bibs? Yes! (Updated) – Happy Planet Running

Your training is going well and you are ready to run some tune-up races! You will run three different kinds of races. Relay teams may divide the tasks between them as they see fit.
After these 6 books are completed, roll a single die for your next prompt. Relay teams only roll once for the team.

https://www.random.org/dice/

1. 5K Race. A short and fairly speedy race. Read a book of 200 pages or less in a single day -OR- read a book of over 200 pages in two days to complete this race .

2. 10K Race. A bit more effort and taxes the body more. Read two books that are over 200 pages long to complete this race.

3. Half marathon. The half marathon is a demanding event that is a good indicator of your overall training. Read three series books to complete this race. The books do not have to be from the same series.

6 = You drank too much coffee before your race so you have to stop at a Port-a-john during the event, and it doesn't have any toilet paper. Spell out TOILET PAPER -or- read a book with the words No Way in the title or series name (No and Way can be separated by other words as in No Other Way, No-Stress Way).

I actually ran a shorter race once (maybe 10k?) where I needed to use the port-a-john. It was on a Sunday at the end of some festival weekend. Not only was there no toilet paper, but a few of the units were overfull with poop. I couldn't believe it. That's where this prompt comes from!

You have done all of the hard work getting ready for your event. It's the night before the race - now you just need to set up for tomorrow and get out there and do it! To complete this section, read one book for each task. Relay teams may divide the tasks between them as they see fit.
After these 5 books are completed, roll a single die for your next prompt. Relay teams only roll once for the team.

https://www.random.org/dice/

1. Race expo - most marathons have a large expo where lots of running gear is sold - read a book where a character goes to or works at an expo.
2. Pasta dinner - read a book where the MC cooks or eats a lot of pasta.
3. Set your alarm - read a book that is alarming to you in some way (explain how).
4. Lay out your clothes - read a book where the MC is a real clothes hound.
5. Morning ritual (beverage, food, gear) - read a book where any character has a set ritual for something that they always do (explain what).

message 183: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments Thank goodness, I would like to forget how long it took me to find an Expo book. Can't even remember which one of us found it first. lol

I'll see if I can find any of the tasks in the books I have planned to read by the end of July.

Trisha | 391 comments Task: 1. Race expo - most marathons have a large expo where lots of running gear is sold - read a book where a character goes to or works at an expo.
Book: There Are Rivers in the Sky
Author: Elif Shafak

How it works: 77% "Red Wednesday" - the festival that welcomes spring and hails new beginnings." The chapter continues with him attending the festival and how he tells the kids that in the US we have New Year's day in the cold and not in the Spring and they laugh at him.

Trisha | 391 comments 5. Morning ritual (beverage, food, gear) - read a book where any character has a set ritual for something that they always do (explain what).
Book: Fallen City
Author: Adrienne Young
Read: 8/4
Rating: 3 stars
How it works: Maris starts her mornings with prayer in the temple. It is such a routine that, when they hear people are coming to the castle, servants wake Maris up early so she can still have time to go to the temple to pray before guests arrive.

message 189: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments 3. Set your alarm - read a book that is alarming to you in some way (explain how).
Book: Breath, Eyes, Memory
Author: Edwidge Danticat
Read: 8/7
Rating: 3 stars
How it works: The main character, Sophie, experiences disturbing "tests" from her mother that are rooted in harmful traditions. The moments are emotionally jarring and can be very uncomfortable to read because they are alarming.

message 190: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments 2. Pasta dinner - read a book where the MC cooks or eats a lot of pasta.
Book: Facing the Sun

5 = It's raining hard on race morning, so you have to wear a garbage bag with hole cut-outs for your head and arms to the race start. Spell out GARBAGE BAG -or- read a book with a character who has to deal with a lot of garbage (say who).

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 805 comments Trisha, which one do you want to do? Someone dealing with a lot of garbage can be interpreted in multiple ways, but we read a lot so I'm okay with the spell-out if you want to do that.
