Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Hi everyone!

Time to nominate books for November! The theme is Voice.

~Please remember to state a connection to the theme when you nominate.

~Books we have read less than three years ago are not eligble. To see which books are not eligble, see this google sheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

~ Each person can nominate 1 book.

~ Book must be available both as a physical copy and as an ebook.

~ Authors: Please do not nominate your own book.

~ Please do not nominate books that are part of a series, unless it is the first book.

~ You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your nomination.

This thread will be closed by September 25th, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose "seconded" books first. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Goodreads average rating to see which is highest.

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4748 comments I nominate Vox by Christina Dalcher. A dystopian book that looks at what happens when women lose their voices as they are limited to 100 words a day

message 3: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12941 comments The Hate You Give is my pick

Overview Starr Carter witnesses the shooting of her best friend by the police and finds herself caught between two worlds. The novel follows her journey as she learns to use her voice to stand up for justice.

Emily (dandelionmews) | 35 comments I nominate 'All the truth that's in me'. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

A story about a girl who is kidnapped and after several years makes her way back to her home. She has lost the ability to speak due to her tongue being partially removed.

message 5: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Reyes | 1147 comments I nominate The Girl with the Louding Voice. Word is in the title.

message 6: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan
I Nominate Archer's Voice as it has voice in the title and from the book description= " It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice.'

message 7: by Gina Marie (new)

Gina Marie | 82 comments I second the nomination of The Girl with the Louding Voice.

message 8: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments I nominate Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson - a book about a young woman who stops talking after a devastating incident and needs to find her voice again.

All the Truth That's in Me
This appears to be a better link for Emily's suggestion as it includes a blurb, shelves, author, award nominations, etc. Also, I'll second it.

message 10: by Emily (new)

Emily (dandelionmews) | 35 comments Thank you TerryJane. I didn't know how to make the link.

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna L | 187 comments I nominate Bel Canto - the voice and singing ability of the main female character are a major feature in the book

message 12: by Karin (new)

Karin | 228 comments I nominate The Voice That Challenged a Nation: Marian Anderson and the Struggle for Equal Rights. This is all about voice on two different levels-- it's about how she became one of the top opera singers of the 20th century (the first American black woman to do so) and also how she spoke against segregation and racism.

BarbaraBrubru_gingertiger (barbara_brubru) | 156 comments I second: "the hate you give" :))

message 14: by Lina (last edited Sep 24, 2024 01:11PM) (new)

Lina | 823 comments I nominate I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings - connection is in the title (voice and singing and using your voice to communicate while locked in)

message 15: by Rhi (last edited Sep 24, 2024 04:19PM) (new)

Rhi (rhi_) | 51 comments As a last minute entry I will nominate To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. The connection is that it is a popular Little Mermaid retelling/adaptation, in this case the MC loses her song.

(I tried to do research and I think this is readily available)

message 16: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments I nominate Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. Jane Austen has been a voice that has inspired countless other authors. I feel like Northanger Abbey fits November, and I haven’t read it this year.
