Welcome, Denise ! Thank you for joining Book Nook Cafe and joining in the challenge.

I look forward to seeing the books you choose.

madrano | 23761 comments Wow, Denise, you covered so much of the Challenge, without even knowing you were doing so! That's so cool. The rest should be a breeze for you...unless (like me) you are less a fan of audio books. :-)

Congratulations on this list.

I really enjoyed reading your list, Denise.

I try to make the list eclectic to inspire us to read more widely. You apparently already do read all type of books. I admire that.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Thank you. I will not be doing the audiobook prompt but I already did 4 of the extras so that should count.

Thank you, yes I am a fan of all sorts of books. I don't do audiobooks but otherwise pretty much anything with words is fair game.

Congratulations, Denise! What a wealth of books your read this year. That you joined us late is remarkable, let alone the fact that you read some big ones, such as London --Edward Rutherford, which is over 800 pages!

The books you listed which appeal to me (in addition to the one Alias shared) follow:
Consider the Fork: A History of How We Cook and Eat--Bee Wilson. I had to immediately look up cider owl. lol

The Kamogawa Food Detectives--Hisashi Kashiwai, translated by Jesse Kirkwood. Sounds neat!

Pineapple Street--Jenny Jackson, although many of the GoodReads reviews were pans.

A few of my friends read it and enjoyed it. It was a library group read. I think if you grew up in Brooklyn Heights there is that added enjoyment of knowing the places discussed.

madrano | 23761 comments I can imagine, Alias. When i read books which feature places i've lived, or sometimes even visited, it enhances my pleasure.

Last night i watched a (so-so) movie, which was filmed here in downtown Dallas. It was neat to see the buildings from the rooftops.

Thanks for the comment, as it's encouraging.

I really liked Consider the Fork and plan to read her other books. It was reviewed in The Atlantic along what these other books I added to my TBR after the review: What She Ate by Laura Shapiro ...and another book I will add later after I find it lol, the title is slipping my mind

I thought Pineapple Street was ok. Not great but not bad either. One character made what I thought was an unconvincing change.

Kamogawa I loved though its predictable. Its short and sweet, good for a fast feel good read.

message 16: by madrano (new)

madrano | 23761 comments Thanks for the further comments, Denise. I'm on the waiting list for the Kamogawa.

message 18: by madrano (new)

madrano | 23761 comments What an interesting duo of books. The list of women shared in the first was informative, i must say. I was going that one to my TBR, for Eleanor Roosevelt alone, but the GR reviews were all over the place. What i read in them about Helen Gurley Brown was shameful. Maybe i just don't want to know all this.

Denise, did you read (or plan to) either of these? The second didn't call to me now that my children are grown. I did good by them, imo. lol
