Welcome to the team, Mandy. But please read the instructions for the challenge as there are problems with your message #51 above. You said you have done a similar challenge before, but the rules are different this year & have been mentioned several times. Only books started on or after 1 October count for your score. You appear to have 11 books marked as “currently reading” - none of which can count for the challenge. Your example Dracula above shows that you want to include books you are already reading. If you read my message #49 above I posted a brief reminder of the format for listing books that you finish. I hope you will find some new books for the challenge & enjoy reading them.

Marina, I left a message for you as soon as you asked to join, asking you to claim your place in this thread, plus a general reminder. I hoped you would join us but thought perhaps you changed your mind. Now you’re here I’ll add you to the spreadsheet.

Message 42 updated. 🤓"
Richard, thank you for reading so much on the first day. I’ve had a dreadful day of interruptions & read much less than usual. For you, there’s just one problem to sort out - you misunderstood the scoring, so need to edit message #42. Each book read gets its own individual score as listed: 1-249 pages = 1 point etc.
Your books start with 304 pages = 2 points, then 320 pages = 2 points, & so on. I calculate your total as 11 points. Please edit - I can’t edit anyone else’s messages! No hurry, I won’t get to the spreadsheet until tomorrow at the earliest. Thank you.

Thanks, Mandy, no problem. I felt I should remind you as it’s easy to make a mistake & I thought you would be disappointed if you read any books that don’t count. I hope you have fun reading the books you choose.

Fixed. I hope it's good now."
Thanks Richard, I didn’t expect you to do this so soon! (Your total number of pages isn’t required for this challenge, though I know you may need it for other challenges or for your own reference.)

Ok got it. And thanks. I like having my GR challenge posts as minimalistic as I can, to maximise the allowed characters per message. 🤓

🌹Spreadsheet:🌹
It's already in use. My aim is to update each day, more than once if several people are finishing books.
I'm happy for everyone to view it at any time. Those who have access have "viewer" status only as I'm still adding formulae etc.
If you don't have access, remember you need to attempt to open the spreadsheet & you can then request access. Sorry, I can't invite anyone until you do this as I think I would need to know details of your Google accounts, which obviously I don't have. (If you are familiar with Google Sheets & think invitations are possible, please tell me - I'm using the software for the first time & still learning extra details.)
If you have time, I'd be grateful if you could look at your own sheet occasionally as an extra check.
I will update the team scores at intervals on the team page, message # 3 in October, so it is easy to find. (Remember that the competition results depend on our average score which will change as members join or leave the group - I hope no one will leave, but sometimes family or work commitments prevent members from continuing a challenge.)

For everyone: the timing of your posts is important at the end of each month, for the monthly competition against one other group. The rules say each book “must be read within that month and posted no later than one day after the end of the month” to count for the monthly total. As far as I know, any reference to deadlines refers to your own local time.
During the month, you can post when it’s easiest for you. We are spread around the world in very different time zones, so some posts will be updated very quickly while others may wait several hours. But please post your completed books fairly often. Thank you.

Well done, Ali! You have been reading a lot, thank you. In answer to your query, sadly you are correct that you can only claim 243 pages (1 point plus bonus 0.5) for that book. It’s so frustrating when that happens but the rule is in the main house cup challenge post where we all signed up: “ Use the page number of the most popular edition”.

That's the fun part of commuting by train 3 times a week ;)
I guess it is fair: maybe I had also translation notes to read, but judging by reviews, the translation might have been better than the original, so it was my gain in the end.
All cleared up now, thank you!

I have Hyperlexia, which is a neurological thing. If you didn't know, hyperlexia is where children learn to read at a very young age (I was 2) & can affect how we read as adults.
I also have a passion for learning new things & becoming a better human than my past self. For instance, I can speak a few languages now & the one I'm currently studying is Russian.

This should be a personal message but you don’t accept them. Thank you for posting, but did you mean to post here? I can’t find any message about you joining this team, so don’t want to claim your points if there’s a mistake. If you want to be in team Ruby you are welcome.
