Ali | 161 comments Welcome back! Post 11 updated!

I really should be lucky with so few letters for my October Spellout, except that makes me overly picky (like: only the books I've enjoyed, or would recommend, or such).

message 165: by Ali (last edited Oct 31, 2024 06:15PM) (new)

Ali | 161 comments Taking Richard's advice as far as I can:

Oct Spell-Out:

1. Titles
A - As Yet Unsent 5/10
L - Legends & Lattes 26/10
I - Into the Wild 28/10

2. AFN
A - Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil, Ananda Lima 2/10
L - The Witches of El Paso, Luis Jaramillo
I - The Bridge on the Drina, Ivo Andrić 16/10

3. ALN
A - Mansfield Park, Jane Austen 30/10
L - Yerba Buena, Nina LaCour 9/10
I - Form 8774-D, Alex Irvine 30/10

Richard (richoman25) | 147 comments Ali wrote: "so few letters"

Or you could do what I'm attempting: spell-out the name by title, AFN & ALN. 🤓

That would give you 9 instead of 3.

Ali, please edit your book list in message #11. I think you made a mistake & posted “Bridge on the Drina” twice so you need to remove your book 14 from your list. Your total score is 20.5

Please check that I’m correct in case I have misunderstood your post.

Ali | 161 comments I'm really, really, really sorry for the confusion. I was sure I've listed it before, but couldn't see it the next time I looked. But of course it was there all along.
At least I can use it as a proof that I shouldn't do anything important until my fever comes down XD

Tr1sha | 629 comments Giulia wrote: "how do you guys put the name with the link? I can't figure that out"

Giulia, welcome to the team, I hope you enjoy the challenge. If you have any other books that you started & finished during October you can add them to your list to claim the points. Please also read the discussions in this thread so you understand how the challenge works. Message #3 is updated daily with the latest points.

To enter your books correctly, start or edit a comment. Above the comment box it shows “add book/author” in green. Click on this, type the book title then choose the correct book from the list by clicking on it (you may need to scroll through to find it). You will see your book title appear in your comment. (The extra symbols disappear when you post the comment). Please do this with your books. If you can’t, then just type the title yourself - showing only the web links will add a lot of time to my task of updating the spreadsheet. If I’m doing that, I can’t read my books for the team!

When you add more books, please edit your list for the month & remember to post a new comment to say “message #175 updated” which works as a bookmark to tell me to add your books to the team spreadsheet. Thank you.

message 180: by Tr1sha (new)

Tr1sha | 629 comments 🌹🌹PLEASE everyone - It’s nearly the end of the month. Remember the easiest points are those for short stories with less than 50 pages. Each person is allowed 10. But if you don’t read any, those 10 October points are lost once November starts. Every point counts! If each person read just 4 more of these 10 books it would add over 50 points to our total!🌹🌹

updated but I have one problem, I could not find the edition that I read of my 4th book (lazarillo de tormes) since there are way too many.. I just put one and then put the number of pages that mine has and on my profile I have the correct one listed as read.. is that good enough?

Tr1sha | 629 comments Giulia wrote: "… , I could not find the edition that I read..."

Giulia, you should not be looking for the edition you read. The rules say we have to use the most popular edition & claim that number of pages - it is always the first one in the list. The only exception to the rule is if the first book is a large print copy. It means that everyone who reads a book gains the same number of points for their team to make the competition fair. My comment yesterday about scrolling through the list of books referred only to finding the correct story as some titles refer to a long list of books by different authors - for example, I read “The perfect home” & the search found over 10000 matches! Luckily the correct book was near the beginning of the list!

okay but like.. this is a classic.. there are a lot of things that change in the beginning of the book where the person who translated it put observations and studies that aren't on my version and on my version there are a lot of things that aren't in the other versions for the same reasons.. it's not a matter of print size..

Tr1sha | 629 comments 🌹Recent updates - problems.

🌹Anupama: your score is correct but I think you counted “Void” as an easy point getter. It has 50 pages so counts as a normal book, the easy ones are less than 50 pages

🌹Richard: your total for 28 October is 16, not 14 - but please check in case I’m wrong!

🌹Giulia: please post your books in a single list, in date order, the same as everyone else. Two lists may lead to mistakes. But thank you for catching up so quickly after joining the group.
