I'll update the list later today!

It's nice to see such a variety of pairs!

I'll also let you know how many pairs you can support, but of course you can support as few as you wish.

The list in message 2 has been updated.

Please let me know if I missed any supporting votes!

You can now support 6 pairs in total!

The nominations for additional pairs will stay open until October 14.
Then we'll have the semi-final round.

message 55: by Luís (new)

Luís (blue_78) | 4614 comments I also support Duras and de Beauvoir!

Related to Yourcenar and Sagan, it's hard to say that I have no Sagan books, but I'll try to find one.
So, I support Yourcenar and Sagan, too.

message 56: by Jen (new)

Jen R. (rosetung) | 401 comments So many choices! The Japanese were a sort of joint nomination but if we call it Lorraine's then I give my supporting vote for it!

I'll also support Masters of Fairy Tales and The Finer Things. Yay for lots of women authors again this year.

message 57: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 397 comments Rosemarie, for the Japanese it was Jen. I just indicated the two I would prefer.
Here are the three for me

Two Prize-Winners from France: from Lorraine
Simone de Beauvoir
Marguerite Duras

Two Japanese Novelists-from Jen
Jun'ichirō Tanizaki
Kōbō Abe

The Finer Things in Life-from Lorraine
Marguerite Yourcenar-France
Françoise Sagan-France

Thanks

If you've suggested a thread, that means you support it already, which means you can support 6 other pairs.

Luís, are you still supporting any of these now that the pairs are officially organized? Cuz it doesn't look like Rosemarie counted any of this yet as your votes.
Haha, I may or may not be selfishly checking in on this ;)

Jen, go back and take a closer look! 😉

?? perhaps there's something wrong with the way GR is appearing for me- ugh! I don't see his votes there and I thought you had a vote for the Happy Couple and that doesn't show anymore either. Strange that whole lines of text are missing!

message 66: by Rosemarie, Northern Roaming Scholar (new)

Rosemarie | 15667 comments Mod
I changed my vote for the happy couple, remembering that I didn't enjoy the last book by Frisch.
If you are using the app, Jen, things disappear all the time!
The last time I checked, Luis' support for both pairs of French female authors was there.

message 67: by Jen (new)

Jen R. (rosetung) | 401 comments @Rosemarie and Luís- ah in that case, please note the original message of Luís that I was replying to where he expressed interest in Camus, de Cespedes, and Tanizaki. But this was before we figured out the pairs you would accept.

I vote for Two Scandinavian Dramatists and Ancient Greek Dramatists.

message 85: by John (new)

John R Most of the choices look excellent, but in an utterly inadequate gesture of solidarity, my "authors from around the world" reading in 2025 will consist entirely of Palestinian and Lebanese authors - starting in the first quarter of the year with Fadwa Tuqan, Gassan Kanafani, and Edward Said.
